Qin Yi’s closed eyes snapped open abruptly. He exhaled heavily but received no response.

This presumptuous woman—who did she think she was? She had only been here a few days and already dared to boss him around?

Since his paralysis, Qin Yi’s temper had become volatile and sensitive. Yet this time, unusually, he remained silent, holding back his anger. He wanted to mock Su Wan for meddling and hoped she would keep her distance.

But inexplicably, images of Su Wan reaching out to him kept flashing through his mind. No matter how much he tried, he couldn’t bring himself to utter any hurtful words, which only made him more agitated.

He sat in silence for a long while. Then, sensing movement, he turned his head and stared in disbelief at Su Wan before him. She was looking straight at him and, with all her might, moved closer. He felt his throat tighten and reached out with a large hand, pulling her beside him.

Su Wan’s voice was thick with a nasal tone as she murmured, “Qin Yi~”

Qin Yi was stunned. Was that really Su Wan? The one who seemed so wooden before?

How had she transformed like this?

Then it dawned on him—it made sense. She was his wife, after all; such closeness was only natural.

Su Wan’s waist was slender, barely an inch in his grasp.

In the cramped space, their breathing became erratic.

At this moment, Su Wan was vividly alive and alluring. He had always known she was beautiful—a young girl blossoming delicately.

This flower was his to pluck and claim.

When a person obtains what they desire, they inevitably crave more.

Su Wan trembled all over. What was once 206 bones now felt like 207...

Her voice grew increasingly coquettish.

After a long while, he couldn’t help but growl lowly; everything finally came to an end.

“Qin Yi, Qin Yi...”

Someone was calling his name. Was it... Su Wan? He turned his head and saw her nearby, and for a moment, he was lost in thought.

Su Wan’s delicate brows knit slightly as she looked at Qin Yi.

“What’s that smell?”

Qin Yi was fully alert now. Had he been dreaming just now, or...?

His face flushed scarlet, the color spreading down to his neck. Embarrassed, he turned his head aside and cleared his throat to hide his discomfort.

“Um, could you help me get the clothes I’m wearing underneath?”

Su Wan got up to find his underwear. When she returned, their eyes met. Su Wan recalled the moment before sleep when she helped Qin Yi change his clothes and blushed deeply.

Qin Yi’s face grew even more awkward—needing Su Wan’s help to change his clothes was humiliating.

As Su Wan touched his clothing, the scent of heather she had smelled earlier grew stronger. Even in her dazed state, she realized what had just transpired.

She hurriedly helped Qin Yi change, handed him some tissues, then quickly put on her own clothes and fled with the sticky, fragrant garment in hand.

By the time Su Wan finished washing the clothes and returned, the sky was already bright.

Both avoided each other’s gaze, each feeling awkward.

Su Wan filled a basin with hot water, soaked a towel, wrung it out, and handed it to Qin Yi to wipe his face.

Qin Yi was unusually docile now.

Grandma Qin, seeing the house becoming tidier since Su Wan arrived and noting Qin Yi’s improved temper, kept offering Su Wan food during meals.

“Come on, Wanwan, eat more to nourish your body. You’re too thin.”

“Enough, Grandma. You eat too.”

“Grandma wants you to eat more. You’re too skinny to work properly.”

Qin Yi’s retort earned a sharp slap on the back from Grandma Qin.

“You little brat, why do you have to speak like that? Why can’t you talk nicely?”

Turning back, she affectionately explained to Su Wan, “Wanwan, don’t take him seriously. He just can’t speak properly. He cares about you, but it sounds like he’s stabbing you with words.”

“If he dares to bully you, Grandma will deal with him!”

“Thank you, Grandma,” Su Wan replied, glancing subtly at Qin Yi.

Qin Yi turned his head uncomfortably. Grandma Qin noticed their awkwardness and laughed even more warmly.

After the meal, Su Wan checked the time and stood to gather some things.

“Wanwan, are you going somewhere?” Grandma Qin asked, noticing her intention.

“Grandma, I want to take him to see a specialist about his leg.”

Hearing this, Grandma Qin’s eyes reddened. She had worried herself sick over her grandson’s leg, pleading with Qin Yi countless times. But since his discharge, he’d stayed home without stepping outside, despite her incessant nagging.

He was like a stubborn stone in a cesspit—both foul and unyielding.

She was at a loss, but Su Wan was different. From the moment she arrived, she managed to get little Yi to cooperate.

Grandma Qin took out a wad of cash.

“Wanwan, take some money with you.”

“No need, Grandma. He already gave it to me.”

Su Wan showed the money to Grandma Qin. Qin Yi simultaneously mocked her to leave and handed her money to buy things.

She thought Qin Yi was a paradox—both pushing her away and giving her money. But after these days, she understood he was just a paper tiger.

She wasn’t afraid of him.

Just then, Lin Changchun’s car pulled up at the gate. Su Wan helped Qin Yi out.

Qin Yi’s face was dark, every inch expressing displeasure.

Grandma Qin chased after them, worry etched on her face. Su Wan reassured her with a gentle touch.

“Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ll take good care of him.”

Then she whispered secretly into Grandma Qin’s ear.

“If he’s disobedient, I have ways to handle him.”

Only then did Grandma Qin’s face relax into a smile.

Lin Changchun teased Qin Yi.

“Hey, your complexion looks good. Looks like your sister-in-law is taking good care of you.”

Su Wan, unused to such teasing, blushed. Qin Yi shot Lin Changchun a sharp glare. Lin Changchun stifled a laugh and apologized.

“Sis-in-law, I’m a rough guy. Sorry if I said anything wrong.”

“Knowing that and still talking? Just shut up,” Qin Yi said coldly, quite intimidating.

Lin Changchun recalled how, before Qin Yi’s accident, he treated them like dogs during training, terrifying them into shrinking back and silently gesturing to keep their mouths shut.

Su Wan, seeing this side of Qin Yi for the first time, couldn’t help but smile.

Seeing her smile, Qin Yi suddenly remembered that ridiculous dream and his expression darkened further. He glared at Lin Changchun, who was laughing along with Su Wan.

“If you’re not driving, you’ve got too much time on your hands, huh?”

Lin Changchun’s muscle memory kicked in. He sat up straight and started the car.

“Where are we going?”

“Just a drive,” Qin Yi replied coldly.

“To the Third Hospital,” Su Wan’s voice came from the back seat.

Lin Changchun looked at Qin Yi then at Su Wan, caught in a dilemma. Qin Yi’s face was as cold as ice outside.

Su Wan glanced at him.

“Don’t mind him. We’re going to the Third Hospital. I checked—there’s a doctor on duty today.”

“All right, sis-in-law, buckle up.”

Su Wan’s words settled the matter. Qin Yi remained sullen all the way. Midway, irritated, he pulled out a cigarette, ready to light it. Catching sight of Su Wan behind him, he put it away again.

Lin Changchun fought to suppress his smile. Finally, someone could tame the unruly Qin Yi.

It was good to rein him in—no more risking his life recklessly for missions. If he hadn’t pushed himself so hard, rushing directly from one mission to another without rest, he wouldn’t be so badly hurt.

As a brother, Lin Changchun hoped Qin Yi would recover soon and regain his former confidence and glory.

After more than an hour, the car reached the Provincial Third People’s Hospital. Suddenly, Qin Yi lost his temper.

He snarled irritably, “I’m not going. I won’t see anyone. Let’s go home.”
