Chapter 105

Because of Mei’s interference, Ye Jingxuan was not allowed to keep pushing forward at night without rest. Unable to argue with her, he had no choice but to sit beside her and keep her company.

“Ah Ye, do you really think there are aliens in this world?” Mei sat on the sofa, gazing through the window at the starry sky as she asked.

Before coming to this world, she only knew that stars could guide the future; she had never imagined that anyone might actually live on those stars.

“I don’t know, but I guess there must be, right?” Ye Jingxuan was puzzled by her sudden strange question but still thought carefully before answering.

“So, what do you think they look like? Are they like us? Or like those aliens in some movies with big heads and big eyes?”

Since discovering she had an alien older brother, Mei had been curious about what he looked like—whether he resembled a human or had a strange appearance. She also wondered if she might look strange someday after merging.

“Although I don’t know what aliens really look like, I can tell you that those images in movies are all fictional,” Ye Jingxuan said with a faint smile, unaware of her thoughts.

“Eh? Then why do they imagine aliens like that? Honestly, they’re so ugly—not attractive at all!” Mei’s eyes widened, full of confusion.

“I don’t know! Probably to make them look different from Earthlings. Otherwise, how would you distinguish between humans and aliens? Although they’re not pretty, they do leave a deep impression,” Ye Jingxuan said thoughtfully.

“That actually makes sense,” Mei nodded. She hoped her cheap older brother looked good so she wouldn’t have to worry about her appearance after merging.

Her original race was the Elven race; every elf was handsome or beautiful. Her natural appearance was, of course, very attractive. But now, the body she needed to merge with was alien. Although its current looks were just above average, more on the cute side, she expected her merged appearance to be somewhere between the two.

However, she didn’t know if the alien’s appearance would change as it grew, which worried her.

If it ended up too ugly, she thought she wouldn’t be happy even after becoming an adult.

She wondered if there were beauty salons in the universe.

If her looks didn’t meet her standards, could she get plastic surgery?

Mei gazed at the starry sky, lost in these idle thoughts, while Ye Jingxuan watched her with a worried expression.

Because just this morning, Mei’s body had changed again. Her already fragile skin now bled easily with the slightest force.

Although she quickly treated the wound with medicine, seeing her pale, painful face without a trace of color made Ye Jingxuan wish he could attach wings to the car and fly straight to the Longsheng Base.

Why had she become like this?

Ye Jingxuan couldn’t figure it out.

Was it poison? Or the genetic problems they had long feared?

He had no way to judge.

As he was pondering, he noticed Mei had fallen asleep on the sofa. Ye Jingxuan carefully picked her up and laid her on the bed.

After sitting by her side for a while to make sure she wouldn’t wake up soon, Ye Jingxuan quietly headed to the driver’s seat.

He still had to hurry to Longsheng to feel at ease.

Three days later in the morning, the two finally arrived at Longsheng Base.

Not wanting Mei to suffer any longer, Ye Jingxuan drove the car right up to the base gate.

The energy car’s peculiar design immediately attracted a crowd of survivors and drew the base’s attention.

A group of soldiers rushed over, surrounding the car. As the door opened, all the guns were instantly loaded and aimed, ready to fire.

Ye Jingxuan stepped out, expressionless despite dozens of guns pointed at him, and calmly asked, “Is Major Ling Feng here? I’m looking for him.”

The soldiers, still cautious upon seeing a man emerge from the car, didn’t lower their guard. When they heard him ask for Major Ling Feng without knowing if he was friend or foe, their tension only increased. Every eye fixed tightly on his every move, ready to shoot at the slightest sign of danger.

“May I ask who you are?” someone asked coolly after Ye Jingxuan spoke.

“Ye Jingxuan,” he replied.

Upon hearing this, the questioner gave a signal, and a soldier immediately ran to the base’s communication device to report. The others kept their guns trained on Ye Jingxuan, unwilling to relax.

Ye Jingxuan stood with his hands in his pockets at the car door. Though he made no move, his presence was no less imposing than the dozens of soldiers facing him, forming a tense standoff.

After more than ten minutes with no sign of Ling Feng, two figures suddenly rushed out of the base. In the blink of an eye, they reached the circle of soldiers without greeting and stepped directly to Ye Jingxuan’s side.

“You finally arrived. Where’s little Mei?” The urgency in the speaker’s voice was palpable even before he stopped moving.

Seeing who it was, Ye Jingxuan relaxed and stepped aside to open the car door.

“She’s inside. You can go see her, but be careful—don’t touch her!” he warned.

Upon hearing this, Mo Chen’s joy at their reunion vanished instantly. His gaze grew serious as he stepped past Ye Jingxuan into the car.

“Brother Ye, you’ve finally arrived safely! You have no idea how worried we were when we heard you and Mei were buried underground. If it weren’t for the mission, we would have stayed and dug you out no matter what! By the way, how did you escape from underground?” Lin Shaojie, oblivious to the tense atmosphere, asked excitedly once Mo Chen went inside.

“We escaped through an underground tunnel,” Ye Jingxuan said straightforwardly, unwilling to reveal anything about the Earth Dragon Beast in front of so many people. As for where the tunnel came from, they could guess for themselves.

“You’re really lucky! It seems An Ziyou’s ability really worked. He said you’d be safe, and he was right! Brother Ye, what’s this? Is this a car?” Lin Shaojie looked at the energy car with curiosity after his exclamation.

“Yes,” Ye Jingxuan replied casually without elaborating.

“That’s such a strange vehicle. It doesn’t even have wheels. How does it move? Does it fly?” Lin Shaojie was immensely curious but knew this wasn’t the time to ask. He muttered to himself and stopped.

Then he turned to Ye Jingxuan again. “Brother Ye, how did you get to the west? We were planning to find you after the mission, but luckily we received your message, or else we would have gone the wrong way!”

Before Ye Jingxuan could answer, a shout came from inside the car.

“Ye! How did you take care of Mei? How did her body end up like this?”

Mo Chen stormed out, grabbing Ye Jingxuan’s collar, eyes blazing with fury, fists clenched tightly.

Ye Jingxuan only shook his head, offering no explanation.

He already felt guilty about Mei’s condition and was certain it was his fault for not taking good care of her. Naturally, he wouldn’t argue.

Seeing him shake his head, Mo Chen couldn’t hold back his anger and raised his fist again, punching Ye Jingxuan’s abdomen.

Though expressionless, Ye Jingxuan let out a muffled grunt, showing how hard the punch had landed.

Lin Shaojie looked on helplessly, unsure what to do.

“Brother Mo, let’s talk this out calmly. Don’t hit him! What’s wrong with little Mei?” Lin Shaojie urged anxiously.

But mentioning Mei only reignited Mo Chen’s pain and anger at seeing her fragile state. He raised his fist once more.

“Chen, stop! Didn’t I say it’s not Brother Ye’s fault? It’s because I wasn’t careful enough. Don’t hit him again!” Mei’s voice came from inside the car just then. Both men turned toward her.

She stood not far from them, dressed in a white silk robe.

“Why are you up? It’s cold here. Go back to bed and rest, okay?” Ye Jingxuan gently pulled free from Mo Chen’s grip and walked over to her.

“Ah Ye, and you too! Why didn’t you dodge when Brother Mo hit you? Why just stand there and let him hit you? Doesn’t it hurt?” Mei scolded instead of listening to Ye Jingxuan’s advice.

“Little Mei, he’s a tough man. One punch won’t hurt him much! But you should get back to bed quickly. Don’t worry, I won’t hit him again,” Mo Chen said, stepping forward without waiting for Ye Jingxuan’s reply.

Mei shook her head. “No need. This car attracts too much attention. Ah Ye, you should put it away! Major Ling Feng must be arriving soon. I can’t lie in bed to meet him.”

Neither of them cared much about her first reason. The car had already drawn all the attention it would, and the entire base probably knew about the strange vehicle at the gate by now.

But her second reason caught their attention.

She really couldn’t meet outsiders lying in bed.

“Then wear more clothes. You’re dressed too lightly and might catch a cold,” Ye Jingxuan advised after thinking for a moment.

Although the robe’s fabric wouldn’t hurt her fragile skin, it was rather thin.

“It’s okay. This robe has a warming magic array. I won’t feel cold!”

Her robe was top-tier magic apparel, embroidered with at least five platinum-colored magic arrays. Keeping warm was the least of its capabilities, so she wouldn’t feel chilly.

Just as they wanted to say more, Lin Shaojie’s voice came from the door.

“Brother Ye, Brother Mo, Major Ling Feng is here!”

They had to give up persuading her. Ye Jingxuan carefully picked up Mei and headed out.

Although Mo Chen wanted to come himself, he feared his strength might injure her delicate bones and reluctantly followed behind them.
