Chapter 7: Madness
"You! What do you mean by that? Am I not allowed to speak about his betrayal of the country?"
Pang Shuyi was startled by Li Yunan's anger, quickly retreating two steps, her eyes sweeping over Li Yunan with a slight raise of her brows, full of disdain.
"Enough! There's no need to argue with her. Let's leave, but before we do, I need to know where my daughter is."
Feng Xu slowly shook his head, paying no attention to whatever status he held in Pang Shuyi’s eyes.
Now that he and Pang Shuyi had reached this point, there was no reason for them to remain connected through Yang Biao. He had no desire for any further ties with Pang Shuyi.
"No! Feng Xu, even if you refuse to speak about this matter today, I can't swallow my anger!"
Li Yunan gritted her teeth lightly. Even if Feng Xu would be angered, she was determined to force this issue into the open. Feng Xu could endure, but she could not!
As an outstanding official, she found herself beset by hostility from all sides, even from her own former ally, who had become so heartless.
She drew a deep breath, steadied her emotions, and stepped forward.
"What are you trying to do?"
A wave of panic swept through Pang Shuyi’s heart. She had just witnessed the ruthless efficiency of Li Yunan’s men. Old Scar Tiger’s gang had already had their bones broken and were fleeing in disgrace.
"I’m not trying to do anything."
Li Yunan stood in place, a faint smile curling her lips. Indeed, there was no need to waste anger on Pang Shuyi.
"Do you truly believe Feng Xu has betrayed the Dragon Nation?"
"Have you ever asked why he would betray it?"
"This man you’ve been married to for years—do you really know nothing of him?"
"Do you not trust him at all?"
Li Yunan clenched her fist tightly, fury blazing in her eyes.
She wanted to question the woman who had been married to Feng Xu, who had shared her life with such an exceptional man. Why did she abandon him so cruelly, humiliate him, and not even bother to ask a single question?
Did Feng Xu truly hold so little value in her eyes?
"I don’t know what you’re talking about, nor do I care! This matter is already fact, but let me remind you: here in the Dragon Nation, you foreign spies have no right to meddle!"
Pang Shuyi gave a cold snort, glancing at the approaching inspection squad with a smug smile.
"What’s happened here?"
A cold voice rang out as several uniformed inspectors rushed over, hands on their belts, their eyes scanning the burly crowd with icy suspicion.
From the physique and bearing of the squad behind Li Yunan, they discerned something extraordinary, and their nerves tightened.
"Hurry! This man is Feng Xu. He’s betrayed the Dragon Nation! And this group just caused trouble here!"
"They assaulted people—I suspect they’re colluding with the Leaf Nation. Arrest them now!"
Pang Shuyi’s lips curled in a triumphant smile. These Leaf Nation agents dared to make trouble on Dragon Nation soil, and now the inspection squad had arrived.
She refused to believe Feng Xu could wriggle free any longer, especially that arrogant woman who dared to question her just moments ago.
"What?"
As the squad captain, Zhu Yunfei immediately drew his specialized stun baton, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
He’d never expected Leaf Nation to intrude so brazenly onto their land.
His team immediately split into two flanking rows, adopting attack positions. The captain called over the radio for reinforcements from other districts.
"There’s no need to be so tense. This is but a minor matter," Feng Xu sighed, unwilling to see so many people align against him.
"Silence! We’re dealing with your case now, Feng Xu. I hope you’ll stop talking. Betrayal is a fact, so you and I no longer belong to the same people! I hope you understand your place."
Zhu Yunfei spoke coldly, Feng Xu’s identity already exposed nationwide.
This traitor still dared to speak with him—utterly impossible.
"Enough, let me handle this. The stigma upon you is heavy enough," Li Yunan sighed softly, feeling the contempt and mockery from her own compatriots.
For Feng Xu, this was a profound pain, but at this moment, they had no choice but to endure.
Feng Xu nodded slightly, gazing silently at the scene before him.
Li Yunan stepped forward, searching through her bag.
"What are you trying to do? Let me warn you, if violence breaks out here, your group’s lives are all at risk."
Zhu Yunfei grew increasingly nervous; as a patrol team, they had only their stun batons, which were not suited for long-range combat.
Suddenly, the squad behind Li Yunan burst into laughter.
"Alright, everyone, stop laughing," Li Yunan said with a gentle smile, halting their amusement. At that moment, she pulled out an identification document from her bag.
"You are…"
Zhu Yunfei stood at attention, his expression grave, eyes wide with surprise at encountering such an important figure today.
"Remember the confidentiality regulations," Li Yunan said sternly, retracting her credentials.
"Yes, yes, if you’d shown this earlier, there wouldn’t have been any trouble. In that case, we won’t disturb you further. Please carry on, we’re leaving."
Zhu Yunfei breathed a sigh of relief, hurriedly putting away his baton and signaling his team to withdraw.
"Hey! You lot—I called you here to arrest foreign spies! Now you’re leaving? You can’t just ignore me!"
Pang Shuyi stared at the group, who had arrived with such bluster and now departed in disgrace.
Li Yunan had simply produced a small green booklet from her bag, though Pang Shuyi couldn’t see what was written on it.
"This woman is out of her mind—what does it have to do with us? Move aside!"
Zhu Yunfei and his team quickly departed.
What a joke—military credentials meant their actions and conduct were bound by strict confidentiality regulations.
Even they were obliged to obey every rule in those regulations without question.
