Chapter 49 Stop Him
However, Chu Tianfeng had long known that his physical strength was no match for other martial artists of the same level, and he had no intention of clashing head-on with the middle-aged security guard.
As his fist was about to smash into the security guard’s face, he suddenly changed direction, swinging it diagonally downward toward the man’s solar plexus!
The security guard hurriedly retreated, at the same time lowering his arms in an attempt to block Chu Tianfeng's attack once more.
But Chu Tianfeng was just too fast.
The guard had barely started lowering his arms when Chu Tianfeng’s right fist slammed hard into his chest.
Bang!
The security guard grunted, his body immediately sent flying backward.
Crash!
His burly frame sailed across the elevator hall and crashed into the wooden door of the stairwell, knocking it completely off its hinges.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The wooden door broke into several pieces, scattering across the steps of the stairwell.
Gritting his teeth against the pain, the security guard rolled to the side, trying to get up and brace himself for Chu Tianfeng’s next attack.
He was quick, but Chu Tianfeng was even quicker!
The guard had just gotten to his feet when Chu Tianfeng’s right fist smashed down once more!
Damn it!
The sound of the fist tearing through the air made the guard curse inwardly.
After their first exchange, he already knew that Chu Tianfeng’s cultivation was roughly on par with his own. However, the other man’s agility and speed left him far behind!
Assuming Chu Tianfeng would once again attack his midsection, the guard crossed his arms over his chest as he retreated, hoping to lessen the force of the attack.
But Chu Tianfeng’s spiritual sense was locked tightly onto him, reading every move before it happened.
The guard had just crossed his arms when Chu Tianfeng’s right fist struck again!
This time, not at his chest—but at his face!
Suddenly, the guard felt a fierce wind in front of him. Instinctively, he hurriedly retreated and tried to raise his arms.
Bang!
The world spun wildly.
His body traced a ragged arc through the air, tumbling as he went.
Spurt!
Before he even hit the ground, blood gushed from his mouth.
Crash!
He smashed into the outer wall of the stairwell, shattering several granite tiles.
He collapsed beneath the wall, glaring at Chu Tianfeng with hatred blazing in his eyes.
Chu Tianfeng was about to rush forward and finish him off when he suddenly heard a flurry of footsteps coming from the stairwell.
Clearly, reinforcements were on their way—and there were quite a few of them.
Time to go!
There were too many of them for Chu Tianfeng to take on head-to-head. Swift as a shadow, he darted across the elevator hall, heading for the corridor behind the lobby.
He wanted to find the electrical room and sabotage the building’s lights. With his spiritual sense, he could move unseen in the darkness, while his opponents would have to rely on their eyes alone.
Usually, the electrical room was either on the first floor or in the basement.
Dodging the pursuing guards, Chu Tianfeng swept his spiritual sense around the area.
Soon, he spotted a room by the back door filled with rows of equipment. Without hesitation, he rushed over.
But just as he reached the doorway, he suddenly sensed a blast of force coming at him from behind!
Chu Tianfeng sidestepped at once, flinging his right hand backward, unleashing a palm of condensed true energy.
Boom!
Chu Tianfeng was almost blown away!
He staggered toward the wall, barely regaining his balance before another fierce blast came roaring toward him.
Gritting his teeth against the pain in his gut, Chu Tianfeng activated his Wind Riding Technique and sent out another palm of true energy.
Boom!
He was knocked back again, retreating several meters to the wall on the far side, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
“Hmph! A mere late-stage Transformation master dares to cause trouble at the headquarters of the Salt Society!” An elderly man with a horse-like face emerged from the corner of the corridor, his hair streaked with white and his gaze sharp and fierce.
Though the man was outside his direct spiritual sense range, Chu Tianfeng could tell from their brief exchange that his cultivation was certainly above the peak of Transformation.
In other words, the man was at least an early-stage Innate expert.
“Are you Sima Lin?” Chu Tianfeng lightly wiped the blood from his lips.
Though he’d managed to deflect some of the force from the two sneak attacks, his internal organs had still suffered.
“Hmph! Someone like you isn’t worthy of Sima’s attention!” sneered the horse-faced man. “I am Chen Yue, vice president of the Salt Society.”
“Chen Yue? Never heard of you,” Chu Tianfeng retorted, while silently directing his true energy to heal himself.
Chen Yue laughed heartily. “No matter. Soon enough, you’ll remember me. I’ll make sure you never forget me as long as you live.”
Chu Tianfeng spat out a mouthful of blood. “I remember what your mother looked like naked.”
“You’re still mouthing off when death is at your door!” Chen Yue’s figure flickered as he charged at Chu Tianfeng.
Knowing he was no match, Chu Tianfeng immediately retreated, his speed nearly equal to Chen Yue’s.
“Hm?” Chen Yue was surprised by Chu Tianfeng’s agility.
“Hick, never seen anything like this before, have you?” Chu Tianfeng mocked, perfectly at ease.
“Very well!” Chen Yue shouted angrily. “If I let you get away today, I’ll write my surname backwards!”
“Judging by your looks, you’re illiterate. You probably can’t write it forwards, let alone backwards!” Chu Tianfeng taunted mercilessly.
A furious roar burst from Chen Yue as he chased after Chu Tianfeng with all his might.
Chu Tianfeng, watching Chen Yue draw closer through his spiritual sense, let the faintest hint of a smile touch his lips.
He knew that a head-on fight was a lost cause.
Ambush—a sneak attack was the only way!
He was a master of ambushes himself, but had just been ambushed twice by this old fox. He was brimming with pent-up anger.
Courtesy must be returned in kind!
Though Chen Yue’s cultivation was far superior, it wasn’t long before he had caught up to Chu Tianfeng.
He raised his right palm, gathering his strength, ready to take Chu Tianfeng down in a single strike.
But before he could strike, a flash of fire appeared in front of his eyes.
Not good!
He’s got concealed weapons!
Chen Yue dodged to the side in alarm.
With a sizzle, a fire arrow shot past his face!
He even caught the acrid scent of burning hair.
Instinctively, he reached up and touched his face. Looking down, he saw his palm covered in gray-black soot.
His already short eyebrows had been singed off!
That was close!
Chen Yue broke out in a cold sweat.
“Who exactly are you?” he demanded as he gave chase again, this time keeping a wary distance and never taking his eyes off Chu Tianfeng’s hands.
“I remember your mother’s naked backside—of course I’m your mother’s lover!” Chu Tianfeng, seeing that Chen Yue was now on guard, focused solely on escaping and did not fire more arrows.
Just then, more than a dozen figures charged down the corridor—judging by their uniforms, all building security.
“Block him!” Chen Yue shouted.
“Yes!” the guards responded in unison, fanning out quickly.
The corridor behind the lobby was narrow to begin with. Lined up, the guards soon made it impassable.
Their skills varied, and their weapons were a mixed bag—some even held pistols!
The metallic clack of slides being racked rang out.
“Hahaha! Let’s see where you run now!” Chen Yue laughed triumphantly.
Chu Tianfeng glanced back at him as if looking at a fool.
Chen Yue’s heart skipped a beat, suspecting Chu Tianfeng was about to unleash another of his dreadful concealed weapons.
Sure enough, Chu Tianfeng’s hands moved in a blur, sending a hail of ice spikes flying!
The guards stared in shock, momentarily forgetting to even raise their pistols.
Swish! Swish!
The ice spikes split into two volleys—one toward the guards ahead, the other at Chen Yue behind.
Chen Yue was prepared; he leaped aside at once.
The ice spikes clattered harmlessly against the floor and walls behind him.
The guards weren’t so lucky.
Crowded together in the corridor, they had no room to dodge.
A chorus of swishing sounds rang out.
The spikes sank into flesh with a sickening sound!
Then came a cacophony of screams and the thuds of bodies hitting the floor.
Of the dozen or so guards, almost none remained standing.
Chen Yue’s eyes nearly burst from their sockets. If looks could kill, Chu Tianfeng would have been riddled with holes.
With a wild roar, Chen Yue charged at Chu Tianfeng.
But Chu Tianfeng refused to engage him, dodging aside as soon as he approached, flinging several more ice spikes his way.
Chen Yue dodged again.
Seizing the moment, Chu Tianfeng dashed over the bodies of the fallen guards.
Chen Yue pursued relentlessly, never letting Chu Tianfeng out of his sight.
One fleeing, one chasing, they circled through the corridor.
Before long, they found themselves back by the rear exit.
Suddenly, Chu Tianfeng stopped, a strange smile curling his lips.
Chen Yue grew wary; he knew another hidden weapon was likely coming.
Sure enough, as Chu Tianfeng’s smile widened, two large fireballs suddenly appeared in his hands.
Damn it! Chen Yue cursed inwardly.
He was starting to suspect this man was not a martial artist, but a circus magician.
Glass spikes, fire arrows, fireballs—utterly shameless!
Watching Chen Yue’s stunned expression, Chu Tianfeng couldn’t help feeling secretly delighted.
Whoosh! The first fireball hurled at Chen Yue.
He dodged at lightning speed.
The fireball struck the corridor wall, scattering sparks everywhere.
Some landed on Chen Yue; he frantically patted them out.
Taking advantage of Chen Yue’s evasive move, Chu Tianfeng kicked open the door to the equipment room, flinging another fireball inside.
Whoosh!
Only as the fireball flew did Chu Tianfeng realize that the rows of equipment were actually monitors.
This must be the surveillance room, not the electrical room!
Boom!
The fireball struck a monitor, instantly setting it ablaze. The room filled with crackling flames.
At the same time, the lights went out, likely due to the fire shorting the wires.
Chen Yue was about to charge at Chu Tianfeng when all the corridor lights suddenly went dark.
Alarms blared throughout the building.
Chu Tianfeng laughed uproariously. He had only meant to plunge the building into darkness, but by accidentally torching the surveillance room, he had achieved even greater results.
In the firelight, Chen Yue caught a glimpse of Chu Tianfeng’s smug expression, and rage nearly burst from his chest.
“Die!” Chen Yue howled, lunging at Chu Tianfeng.
But Chu Tianfeng still refused to fight him, slipping away into the shadows in the blink of an eye.
Chen Yue was petrified.
With the lights on, he wouldn’t have feared Chu Tianfeng too much. The man’s concealed weapons were dangerous, but visible and thus avoidable with care.
But in the darkness, it was a different story.
If the enemy used fire arrows or fireballs, so be it. What terrified him was the thought of those glass spikes.
Those were impossible to see or defend against in the dark.
Chen Yue could only curse Chu Tianfeng again in his heart, silently praying for the backup generator to kick in soon.
Chu Tianfeng, taking advantage of Chen Yue’s moment of shock, sped to the stairwell and dashed toward the basement.
