Chapter Twenty-Four: The Navigan Region
This game, known as Seven Days to Die, was one Qin Fei had played before. In fact, he could be considered a veteran player of it.
The setting of Seven Days to Die takes place in a fictional world. After the Third World War, an unknown biological virus spread, turning most of Earth's population into zombies. Overall, the dangers of this world far exceed those of the previous one, and the odds of death are much higher. Even with the extra item, the Substitute Doll, added to Qin Fei's backpack, the risk remains immense.
According to the system's description, there should be three days left before the next transmigration. Qin Fei planned to use these three days wisely and prepare all the supplies needed for his next passage.
Returning home, Qin Fei checked his phone; it still displayed November. On the day he crossed over, it was November as well. Although Qin Fei couldn't recall the exact date of his transmigration, it seemed that after entering the game, time in the real world stood still.
A new message arrived on Qin Fei's phone. "A cash transaction has been completed on your XXPay account: +1,000,000 yuan..." The cash reward from the system had actually been deposited! Considering the system's astonishing capabilities, transferring money into his bank account was no real surprise.
Over these three days, Qin Fei used the cash to purchase a large batch of supplies, including a military backpack to carry them. The system's own spatial backpack couldn't store items from the real world. Besides gathering supplies, Qin Fei replayed Seven Days to Die several times and visited a psychologist.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye. When the moment of transmigration arrived, a system prompt appeared before Qin Fei. The prompt was in the gray-and-white style typical of Seven Days to Die.
"Repairing all wounds on your body..."
"Mission begins. Preparing to enter the Seven Days to Die game world. Teleportation countdown initiated..."
The scene was familiar. As the countdown ended, the surroundings were gradually replaced by blinding white light. Within seconds, the glow became so intense that Qin Fei couldn't even keep his eyes open...
It felt as if he'd slept for ages. After a haze of confusion, Qin Fei found himself lying on a patch of grass, his head still a little dizzy.
He stood up and surveyed his surroundings.
Something felt off.
Damn!
Where's my bag?
What happened to all the supplies I bought?
---
Qin Fei realized not only had his backpack vanished, but even the clothes he wore were gone. No wonder he'd felt chilled.
The system was ruthless: none of the painstakingly prepared food and weapons from the real world had been brought over!
It was another hellish start.
The system's prompt interface appeared in Qin Fei's vision.
"Teleportation to Seven Days to Die game world complete. Welcome to the Navigan region!"
"Main mission: Survive for fifty days in the Seven Days to Die game world."
"The Blood Moon is approaching! Countdown: seven days"
As expected. The zombie horde mechanics in this world were almost identical to the game.
In-game, the Blood Moon occurs every seven days. Once it rises, the zombie horde descends. Players are besieged by waves of zombies throughout the night, the attacks ceasing only at dawn.
Thus, Qin Fei had to construct his defenses before the Blood Moon arrived.
Although his clothes hadn't transferred, Qin Fei found some garments in his backpack—leftovers from the previous game world.
After dressing, he discovered four new items in his bag.
"Bottled water: Fresh bottled water, just as refreshing as it would be in a post-apocalyptic world."
"Chili canned food: Stocked chili, easy to swallow, but beware the lingering heat."
"Torch: Serves as a light source or weapon; its warmth will attract zombies."
The last item was a roll of bandages.
These seemed to be starter supplies gifted by the system upon entering the game world.
Qin Fei checked his food reserves. He still had nearly ten cans left from the previous world, plus the new chili can from the system.
This food should last him several days.
Without delay, Qin Fei set out to find a suitable shelter—easy to defend and live in.
He was currently on an asphalt road.
Qin Fei followed it forward.
Along the road, abandoned cars were parked, piles of garbage littered the area, and flies hovered over the refuse.
The environment was filthy and chaotic.
But that was to be expected.
---
It was the end of the world; no one had time for cleanliness.
After walking a short distance, Qin Fei spotted a gas station ahead, with two fuel pumps outside. A few wrecked cars were parked nearby.
Typically, gas stations have stores inside.
Qin Fei quickened his pace toward the station, uncertain if there would be anything to eat inside.
Halfway there, he suddenly stopped.
Near the two fuel pumps, he saw a figure writhing constantly...
The figure moved toward Qin Fei, who quickly hid behind a car.
Peeking out, Qin Fei observed the person.
He moved like someone with severe hyperactivity, his posture bizarre, arms raised as he staggered.
He looked disturbingly ecstatic.
Most crucially, his skin was bluish-black, with several areas festering and oozing pus...
A zombie.
Fortunately, its pace was slow, so Qin Fei wasn't panicked.
He scanned the surroundings; confirming there was only one zombie nearby, he retrieved a shotgun from his backpack.
He'd acquired this shotgun in the previous game world, but rarely used it due to a lack of ammo.
He didn't fire immediately.
Clutching the shotgun, Qin Fei waited patiently...
The zombie continued writhing, then, as if exhausted, stopped moving entirely.
Taking advantage of the pause, Qin Fei raised his shotgun and squeezed the trigger.
Bang!
Perhaps luck was with him—the shot struck true, hitting the zombie's head and dropping it instantly.
But the gunshot was loud; as the echo faded, sounds emerged from inside the gas station.
In Seven Days to Die, zombies are drawn by heat and noise.
Moments later, a man and a woman—both zombies—shambled out, limbs twitching as they staggered toward Qin Fei.
