Chapter Ninety: Tech Gear
As the saying goes, one who takes a favor grows soft in the mouth and slack in the hand. That saying applies not only to people, but to other creatures with a measure of intelligence as well.
After the giant predator ate the food Qin Fei offered it, the hostility in its eyes faded considerably.
Its reaction was perfectly natural. Thanks to future humans, who had long since altered the genes of the island’s creatures through genetic technology, the native life here was born with a certain ease of domestication. This had already become instinct.
Seeing the beast gradually lower its guard, Qin Fei tried edging closer.
He intended to bandage the injured right leg with something simple.
Of course, while moving, Qin Fei never took his eyes off the giant predator and remained on constant alert. If it so much as twitched, he could instantly retreat using the second jump granted by the mist in the Cloud Bottle, then glide away with his wingsuit.
Yet the beast seemed to have grown obedient. Even as it watched Qin Fei approach, it made no move to attack. It only regarded him with curious, puzzled eyes.
When Qin Fei reached the injured leg, he took a T-shirt from his backpack.
With strength six times that of an ordinary person, he tore the shirt apart with his bare hands.
Then, holding the torn cloth, he measured it against the beast’s leg.
No good, far too large.
The creature’s body was so enormous that cloth ripped from a single shirt would not be enough to wrap the wound.
Helplessly, Qin Fei took out two more thin garments, tore them open as well, tied the strips together into a long band, and only then stepped forward to bind the giant predator’s injured right leg.
While he worked, he also took out some aloe vera gel and smeared it over the wound.
The gel had been an item he obtained in the world of Seven Days to Die. Applied to an injury, it could help the wound heal.
Once Qin Fei finished bandaging the injury, the blood that had been seeping steadily from the wound was at last stopped.
Though the giant predator was a beast, its intelligence was not low.
It could understand that Qin Fei’s actions had saved its life.
Feeling the coolness of the aloe vera gel spread through its leg, the southern giant beast dragon even looked at Qin Fei with a trace of gratitude.
It let out two soft calls toward him, as if trying to show goodwill.
Seeing how meek it had become, Qin Fei gathered his courage and reached out to pat the giant predator’s head.
The beast did not resist.
It seemed that this giant predator had already accepted Qin Fei as a friend from the heart.
Because its leg was injured and it could not move, Qin Fei took out the cryo chamber from his backpack and placed it inside.
The cryo chamber could store any target that bore goodwill toward its user, regardless of size.
In this way, both of Qin Fei’s cryo chambers were now occupied.
One held the colossal squid he had previously tamed beneath the sea, while the other contained this southern giant beast dragon.
After subduing the giant predator, Qin Fei and the others continued onward.
It took them two full days to make their way from the snowfields all the way up to the volcano’s summit.
Using his Stone Construction Mastery skill, Qin Fei built a stone furnace near the volcanic lake.
He then placed silica pearls and obsidian into the furnace.
He also fetched some lava from the volcanic lake and put it beneath the furnace as a heat source.
Obsidian was chiefly composed of silica and calcium carbonate; refined together with white pearls, it could yield large quantities of silica plates and polymer materials.
The next step was to refine iron ore into the shapes required for Tech equipment.
After that, Qin Fei gathered all the refined materials together, and under the effect of Tech energy elements, they were fashioned into a Tech helmet and Tech boots.
The process of crafting Tech equipment was extremely tedious.
Especially under such poor conditions, without the aid of advanced technology.
For that reason, Qin Fei and the others spent nearly a month making these items.
Because their conditions were so crude, nearly all the Tech gear they produced was merely ordinary gray quality.
The Tech Helmet had night vision, underwater breathing, and the ability to automatically detect living creatures. When used, it required Tech energy elements for power.
The Tech Boots allowed the wearer’s feet to adhere to any terrain and negated all fall damage. They too required Tech energy elements to operate.
These two pieces of equipment were highly practical.
The helmet’s night vision and underwater breathing greatly enhanced the user’s adaptability to different environments, while its automatic detection ability allowed the wearer to sense nearby danger in advance.
The boots, with their anti-fall function and adhesion ability, greatly improved mobility.
To ensure they had enough ammunition to fight Kong, Qin Fei and the others also took the opportunity to make several thousand shotgun shells during the crafting period.
Since there was no lead ore on the island, they used unfinished iron pellets instead when making the ammunition.
In terms of power, however, they were not much inferior to lead shot.
After so many days of recuperation inside the cryo chamber, the southern giant beast dragon Qin Fei had tamed had nearly fully recovered from the wounds on its leg.
Now that all the supplies needed for battle were finally ready, Qin Fei planned to head to the Ark terminal and challenge Kong.
The volcano and the Green Ark were very close to each other.
And since the climate around the Green Ark was not nearly as harsh as that atop the snow mountain, Qin Fei and the others chose to open the portal there.
With the southern giant beast dragon leading the way, they advanced unhindered and soon arrived near the terminal beneath the Green Ark.
Tribute Terminal: Summons Kong portal.
Required offerings: Ancient Artifact of Unity x1, Ancient Artifact of the Devourer x1, Ancient Artifact of Brutality x1.
After placing the three sacred artifacts indicated by the terminal into it, a semicircular teleportation array gradually appeared around them.
Kong portal activating...
When the countdown ends, survivors near the terminal will be teleported.
Countdown: 2 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds...
Up to twenty survivors and other living beings may be teleported...
Compared with the Blue Ark, the area around the Green Ark was much safer.
During the teleportation process, no carnivorous dinosaurs interfered at all.
Qin Fei and the other three, along with the pets beside them, vanished from where they stood as a flash of white light swept past...
When the white light faded, Qin Fei and the others found themselves in a world of ice and snow.
The temperature here was bitterly cold, no warmer than the summit of the snow mountain.
In the distance stood a stone bridge buried under ice and snow.
On both sides of the bridge yawned bottomless chasms.
Beyond the bridge lay a vast estate, immense and bearing a distinctly classical Eastern style. Outside the grounds stood two stone gorilla statues.
Just as Qin Fei and the others were surveying their surroundings, a series of furious roars suddenly erupted from within the estate.
Within those roars seemed to burn boundless rage.
It was Kong.
Hearing that roar in the game, Qin Fei had not thought much of it. But now that he stood here in person, the sound had become strangely terrifying, coldly and horrifyingly so...
