Boom!

The silver Void Blade sliced through Liu Mubai’s purple robe and penetrated his body. The very instant the blade entered him, it exploded, a ten-centimeter diameter sphere shattering into countless silver points of light, each like a star. Formed from the power of a billion spaces, these points of light collided madly with the energies within Liu Mubai, and both forces were annihilated together!

Pop—

Soundless and without warning, Liu Mubai, whose body was wholly composed of energy, neither screamed nor bled. He simply vanished in a most uncanny manner.

A War God had fallen!

Bang!

At the very moment when the Void Blade felled Liu Mubai, a plaque of dark gold erupted in the main hall atop Mist Gold Mountain.

“Liu Mubai is dead?”

As the plaque shattered, an ancient, withered elder sitting cross-legged slowly opened his clouded eyes, a trace of astonishment flickering within them.

His hair, white and wild like dried grass, stirred though there was no wind. In an instant, his immense spiritual force swept across the entirety of Mist Gold Mountain.

Every War God was a pillar of the human race. The sudden fall of one was a matter of grave importance for Jiujiang Base—especially when this War God was slain not by an alien, but by another War God, a fellow human. Such a matter was even more severe! The strongest of the human race, those who stood at the apex, were killing each other!

Jiujiang Base could not tolerate this. The human race as a whole could not tolerate this!

For War Gods were the very foundation of humanity.

And a foundation must never be shaken!

Thirty years ago, a high-ranking War God slew a mid-ranking War God over a personal vendetta. Jiujiang Base erupted in fury. The true authorities of the base gave the order personally: three peak War Gods, accompanied by ten high-ranking War Gods, hunted the murderer down. After fleeing over thirty thousand kilometers, the killer finally took his own life.

The withered old man, his face aged beyond imagination, slowly rose. His vast spiritual sense swept over the War God Palace set halfway up Mist Gold Mountain. Instantly, every War God there opened their eyes in unison, and their bodies became streams of light, racing toward the golden hall at the summit.

...

“You are not yet qualified for me to act. Your life—my brother will claim it himself!”

At the mountain’s base, Han Lingyue lifted his head slightly, casting a calm glance toward the golden hall at the peak. His brows knit in a faint frown before he looked coldly at the crumpled form of Black Qin, whom he had reduced to a heap.

After a moment’s silence, he strode to Kerber’s side, bent down, and lifted the nearly skeletal Kerber, whose breath was as faint as gossamer.

Kerber was not dead. As long as he still lived, it was nothing to Han Lingyue.

“I might run into some trouble soon. Luo Han, I’ll leave my brother to you. If you face anything you can’t handle, go to Li Qingfeng, tell him this is my brother—he’ll help you.”

Han Lingyue looked once more at the mountaintop, then, after a pause, spoke softly to the burly Luo Han.

“All right.”

Luo Han’s mood was equally heavy. When that pale blue domain vanished moments ago, he suspected something significant had occurred. Now, seeing Han Lingyue emerge alone, his suspicions were confirmed.

Han Lingyue had killed Liu Mubai.

As this thought surfaced, Luo Han’s shock was mingled with deep concern. After all, Liu Mubai was a War God! Killing a War God was not a trivial matter. Han Lingyue was not facing “a little trouble”—he could very well be killed himself.

Seeing Luo Han nod, Han Lingyue smiled faintly, handed Kerber over, then slowly turned and, clad in black pajamas, chest bare and slippers on his feet, began walking step by step toward the golden hall at the summit.

He knew well the consequences of slaying a War God. But so what? Since Liu Mubai had set his mind on killing Kerber, he deserved to die—he must die!

As for the consequences, those would be dealt with later.

This was Han Lingyue’s way: if something displeased him, he would kill. Kill first, worry later. What sort of man cowers and hesitates?

Kerber could not know that, because of him, Han Lingyue had, in a fit of rage, slain a War God. When Kerber finally woke from his coma, his wounds miraculously healed, his only affliction was a lingering weakness.

The first thing he saw upon opening his eyes was Luo Ling, asleep at his bedside.

“You’re awake?”

As soon as Kerber stirred, Luo Ling’s eyes opened. Her tired, pale face was instantly alight with joy.

“Does it still hurt?”

When Kerber looked at her, a blush crept up Luo Ling’s cheeks. Fidgeting with her sleeve, she glanced at him with shyness; their eyes met, and her heart pounded wildly, as though a little deer was dashing about inside, her cheeks growing ever redder.

“It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

Looking at her blushing face, Kerber smiled gently.

“By the way, who saved me?”

Kerber knew that, given Luo Ling’s strength, she could never have defeated Black Qin.

“My brother first, then Brother Han,” Luo Ling replied softly, her willow-leaf brows drawing together ever so slightly.

“What happened?”

Kerber was puzzled. First Luo Ling’s brother, then Han Lingyue? By rights, Luo Ling’s brother was one of the top ten on the Azure Dragon Rankings; Black Qin shouldn’t have been his match. Why had Han Lingyue intervened?

“Wasn’t your brother stronger than Black Qin?” Kerber asked.

“Hmph, how could Black Qin possibly beat my brother? But in the end, Black Qin’s teacher arrived…”

“Black Qin’s teacher?”

Kerber paused. The teachers at Jiujiang’s Genius Training Camp were at minimum mid-level War Gods. Black Qin’s teacher, then, must be at least a mid-level War God!

But even so, Han Lingyue had only just broken through to the War God realm. Could he really be a match?

“Even Han Lingyue must not be a match for Black Qin’s teacher, right?” Kerber said, though he had great faith in Han Lingyue’s strength. Still, the opponent was a renowned War God—a mid-level one at that.

“Hmph! To our boss, a mere mid-level War God is nothing!”

While Kerber was still pondering, Little Jiu suddenly entered.

“Boss Han was too impulsive. When he saw you hurt, he flew into a rage and killed Black Qin’s teacher!” Little Jiu’s voice was heavy, his eyes bloodshot. “But Black Qin’s teacher was a War God. Now Boss Han’s in real trouble!”

Boom!

Kerber’s mind went blank. Hearing that Han Lingyue was in trouble, he was overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. It was surely because of him that Boss Han killed Black Qin’s teacher.

Because of him. Again, because of him.

“What exactly is Boss Han facing now?”

Veins bulged on Kerber’s forehead, his eyes reddened, and he stared at Little Jiu with a low, pressing voice.

“Beneath Mist Gold Mountain, at the bottom of Azure Dragon Lake—ten years of confinement.”

Little Jiu gritted his teeth and replied, word by word.
