“A bowl of ramen, please.” That voice was so familiar, carrying a bit of an edge.

Qiu Fengyu turned his head and saw the young woman. He opened his mouth and blurted out, “Hey there, little sister! So it’s you!” He said this in Chinese, unmistakably with a northeastern accent.

Now the young woman looked stunned, puffing up for a long moment before saying to Qiu Fengyu, “What did you just say? That’s not fair. No, no, no—you have to speak English.”

“I did it on purpose!” Qiu Fengyu laughed proudly. “Who told you to show up out of nowhere and scare me? I had to scare you back. You’re out of your mind! You actually came here? Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving, and you’re planning to spend it here? Are you crazy?”

“Yes, I am crazy.” The young woman chuckled and then walked into the main hall. She reached the door, snapped her fingers, whistled, and a tall woman entered. Instantly, everyone in the hall widened their eyes, losing their appetite.

“Oh my God, Qiu… Qiu… come over here!” a customer shouted. “Helen, Helen…”

“How do you know her name is Helen?”

“Because she’s going to start a war… God, she’s stunning.”

The people in the noodle shop were shouting recklessly, apparently praising the woman who had just come in. She seemed to enjoy the admiration, turning to the girl who had greeted her and smiling, “I like the people here. It really feels fresher than Los Angeles.”

“If you stay long enough, you’ll find them boring,” the girl shrugged and, under everyone’s watchful eyes, pulled the newcomer to sit face-to-face in a booth.

“But… I still like them. This feeling is wonderful. After being used to those jerks who are polite but have filthy faces, this place is like a fresh breeze from the open fields—captivating.” The girl smiled brightly and then lowered her voice, “The person in the kitchen—is that him?”

“Yes, he’s out now!” The girl quickly sat up straight, and the other girl smiled and straightened herself as well.

Qiu Fengyu carried two bowls of noodles and placed one in front of each girl. He glanced at April, then at the girl sitting opposite her.

“Hi, you’re really beautiful. Are you April’s friend?”

“Yes, I’m April’s best friend.” The girl smiled and extended her hand. “I’m Reese Lassett. You can just call me Reese, same as April.”

Qiu Fengyu shook her hand and nodded. “Hey, thanks to April, I met such a beautiful girl. That’s the only benefit she’s given me all this time.” He made a funny face at April, who couldn’t help but smile.

“Oh really… is this how you treat me?” April pretended to look aggrieved.

“Who told you to bring her along—the girl who could start a war?” Qiu Fengyu turned seriously to Reese Lassett. “I just heard someone call you Helen. Who’s Helen?”

“Pfft!” Reese burst out laughing and then looked at April with a smile. “I really believed him. He’s quite an interesting guy.”

“Wow, you think so?” April smacked her forehead and looked at Qiu Fengyu strangely. “How can you forget the name of such a famous woman? Helen was the beautiful goddess in the Trojan War—the one from Homer’s epics. The war started because of Helen, basically.”

“Do you know Xi Shi? Or Diao Chan? Or Wang Zhaojun? Or Yang Guifei?” Qiu Fengyu snorted at April, who looked dazed. Then he smiled happily. “You don’t even know China’s Four Great Beauties, so why should I remember your American beauties?”

“Not American…”

“Ha ha… you’re hilarious.” Reese Lassett laughed heartily, no longer caring about her image, then said to Qiu Fengyu, “Looks like April’s right—you really are an interesting person.”

“If we chat any longer, the noodles will get cold!” Qiu Fengyu shrugged and turned to leave.

“She’s got personality; I like it!” Reese smiled at April. “I want to stay here a long time. Compared to Los Angeles, this place is naturally charming.”

“You’re wrong. This is the difference between tequila and Dom Pérignon champagne. When you’re used to the champagnes, you always want to try different flavors, even if they’re vastly different.” April smiled. “It’s just a matter of taste. Anything fresh has its charm.”

“That’s your theory?” Reese laughed and then started savoring her noodles.

The noodles were indeed delicious.

Reese hadn’t looked up from her bowl since she started eating. She ate slowly, savoring each bite—not the quick, noisy kind, but leisurely. It was her habit.

April ate faster, but with such delicious noodles, she was quite pleased. The two beauties eating noodles caused the cowboys in the shop to slow down as well.

After finishing their meals, the cowboys left, casting glances at the two women—especially Reese, who seemed vaguely familiar.

But the two girls remained seated.

Davis came over to clean up, grinning foolishly, mostly at Reese.

“Hi, I’m Davis—Harry Davis. You can call me Harry.” He extended his hand to Reese.

“Reese Lassett.” Reese shook his hand lightly, then pulled it back and made a funny face at April, winking.

“Reese?” Davis was surprised. He looked at her, then stammered, “You’re the angel Reese from ‘Favorite Angel’?”

“Yes, I’m the one who played the angel,” Reese smiled, enjoying Davis’s dumbfounded look.

“My God, Reese from ‘Wonder Woman Diana’?”

“Oh yes, I’m not a fake. Need to see my driver’s license?” Reese smiled at him.

“Can I have an autograph?” Davis pinched his own hand nervously.

“Of course! If you want it, hurry up.”

“Okay, right away!” Davis turned hastily but accidentally bumped into the adjacent booth, stumbling and nearly falling.

“Hey, you damn it! If you break something, you have to pay for it… Where are you going?” From the kitchen, Qiu Fengyu shouted as Davis ran toward the loft.

“I’ll be right back!” Davis called but was already gone. Moments later, he returned, holding a pen and paper, slightly out of breath, and hurried to Reese’s side.

“Harry Davis, my name—”

“I know, you just told me,” Reese smiled and grabbed the pen, signing his paper with a flourish and beautiful handwriting.

“Oh God, I can’t believe I’m actually seeing you in person! I love your role as Diana. Among superheroes, you’re my favorite—beautiful, sexy, and charming. God, you’re the perfect image.” Davis shook his head, as if dreaming.

“Thank you very much for your appreciation,” Reese said politely. “Aren’t you supposed to be cleaning the tables?”

“Oh right, I’m here for that. Thanks so much, Reese. I’ll always support you.” He picked up a basket from the booth, turned, and again bumped into a table, nearly falling. Plates clattered.

“Damn it, Davis, I told you—if you damage anything…”

“I’ll pay for it, boss, I promise!” Davis said happily, heading back to the kitchen.

Qiu Fengyu came out, having changed out of his chef’s uniform, and walked over to April. Leaning nearby, he smiled, “I know you’re worried, so come with me. I’ll arrange everything for you.”

“No, I’m here to have fun,” April smiled.

“Come on, it’s just next door!” Qiu Fengyu said, then turned to Davis, “When you’re done, just go home. I’ll close up myself.” He nodded at April and headed toward the door.

Reese stood and followed April, then leaned in to whisper, “Is he always this cool? He didn’t even look me in the eye.”

“He’s trying to get your attention. Be careful, girl, or he might just eat you up.”

“Ha ha, maybe he’d rather eat you?” Reese winked at April.

The three of them walked to the nearby construction site, bustling with workers.

“This is the room I’ve reserved for you, but it’s upstairs—on the upper floor. Open the window, and you can see the scenery: the rugged, masculine landscape of Texas,” Qiu Fengyu pointed out.

“Where’s your room?” April smiled at him.

“Besides yours, every other room here is mine.” Qiu Fengyu chuckled. “I like whichever one I want.”

“Hurry and finish building it. When it’s done, call me—I want to stay there for a while and work on my script. I’ve just come up with a really good story, so I need an environment like this.”

“You’ll be satisfied,” Qiu Fengyu nodded.

“Can I have a room here too?” Reese smiled brightly. “I want to stay next to April. You know, we’re best friends and rarely apart.”

“Uh, then you can stay in her room since you two never separate,” Qiu Fengyu answered decisively, then looked at April. “Are you happy now?”

“This is your house. I have nothing to complain about.”

“Alright then… goodbye, and have a great holiday.” Qiu Fengyu turned and left, never once paying attention to the beautiful Reese. (To be continued.)
