Chapter 109: I Will Kill Her
Thank you to all my brothers for the tips and monthly votes, and thank you to those who subscribed to the official version.
Many people arrived, most of whom were familiar with Qiu Fengyu. His closest ones had come in full, and many familiar single friends were there as well. Then there was Sandra—that big guy with the booming voice, chattering away in high spirits.
When each family arrived, they brought delicious homemade dishes. There was no need to worry about the food being insufficient; if anything, it was overly abundant. However, it was clear that the table full of dishes prepared by Qiu Fengyu was the true highlight.
The Thanksgiving dinner eventually turned into a wild party. Davis had managed to get hold of a sound system from somewhere, and as the upbeat music flowed, many people swayed gently to the rhythm while they ate.
"This is the most special Thanksgiving I've ever had," Racy said to April with a smile. "I only had a tiny bit of interest in this guy before, but now... he really has shown me something extraordinary. To think that so many people would give up the chance to reunite with their own families at home just to spend Thanksgiving with him. Really... this is where his charm lies."
"He's just damn lucky," April muttered under her breath.
"That has nothing to do with it; it’s... a kind of personal charisma," Racy smiled at April. "You seem to have a big grudge against him, haha. If you're not satisfied, you can leave him to me. I could try and see if I can sweep this guy off his feet."
"You’re choosing a guy over your best friend!"
"I’ve always been like this; good things are meant to be shared!" Racy laughed lightly and turned toward Qiu Fengyu, leaving April dumbfounded.
Qiu Fengyu was talking to the priest. Even Father Ace Graham had shown up, which was something Qiu hadn't expected. However, the man was currently trying to recruit him into the fold.
"At any moment, the Lord watches our every move. We pray to Him, and He is always listening..." Father Ace Graham preached to Qiu Fengyu.
"Sorry, Father, I have to interrupt. Over there... I think a guest might need me." Qiu Fengyu saw Minami Yonekura waving at him, her smile so sweet that he couldn't help but want to pinch her cheeks.
"Very well, Qiu. You are a soul that can be redeemed. I will be waiting for you over there..." He pointed toward the church. "I must head back now. I am very happy to have been able to attend your Thanksgiving dinner."
Qiu Fengyu bid him farewell. Thus, the priest became the first to leave.
Still, it seemed most people were enjoying this way of celebrating. It was a bit different from tradition, yet lively, with mouth-watering food—everything was simply perfect.
"Hey, little one!" Qiu Fengyu walked over and picked up the little girl, Minami Yonekura.
"Sing—" The little girl used her milky, childlike voice to say simple English to Qiu Fengyu, then pointed toward the sound equipment where Davis was stationed.
"Alright, no problem!" Qiu Fengyu made an "OK" gesture, then took her over to Davis, who was moonlighting as the DJ.
"Davis, you need to get this little beauty to sing."
"No problem! What song do you want? I can pull up the backing track online for you," Davis said with a smile.
Obviously, the little Japanese girl didn't understand him. She just tilted her head, blinking her large eyes, looking at Davis with a cute, bewildered expression, her little mouth slightly agape.
"Oh, she doesn't understand me," Davis said to Qiu Fengyu, spreading his hands helplessly. "Little girls always give me a hard time. But it's not an issue. Hey... Miss Yonekura..." he called out to her parents and brother, who were eating nearby. Their whole family had a stubborn passion for fine food.
"Your ramen is still far inferior to Qiu's, but you've improved a lot," Kenzou Yonekura lectured his son, Masatoshi Yonekura, while shoving food into his mouth.
Masatoshi listened while eating with near-greed, constantly piling his favorite delicacies onto his plate—though he made sure to visit every dish Qiu Fengyu had prepared.
"You've been getting closer to Qiu lately?" After finishing his lecture to his son, Kenzou turned to his daughter, Ryoko Yonekura.
"Yes, he is an interesting person, worth getting to know!" Ryoko nodded.
"Then keep getting to know him."
"Yes, Father!" Ryoko replied. Just then, she saw Davis waving at her, so she said a word to Kenzou and headed over.
"I should learn some Japanese," Davis said with a smile as soon as Ryoko arrived. "I have absolutely no idea what song she wants to sing..."
"This one..." Ryoko searched for a Japanese song on her tablet. "She sings this every time she performs. Well... shall we go over there and talk?" The last sentence was directed at Qiu Fengyu.
"Hey, Qiu, hello!"
Qiu Fengyu was just about to walk off with Ryoko when he heard a woman's voice behind him. They both turned to see Racy, who was looking at Qiu with a grin.
"Hi, Racy, hello!" Qiu Fengyu waved at her.
"Looks like you're going to be busy. April, and now a big star added to the mix." Ryoko huffed, turned around, and walked away without looking back.
Qiu Fengyu shrugged his shoulders at her, then turned back to Racy.
"Hi, I hope the food is to your liking. After all, this is just a small town, not Los Angeles!"
"Oh, I just came over to say hello. I saw you with that little girl; I never thought someone like you would be so good with kids..." Racy smiled at him. "It feels very heartwarming."
"Someone like me? A hitman or a bodyguard?" Qiu Fengyu’s tone held a hint of mockery.
"Oh, I think you misunderstood me, Qiu. I just meant that you look very cool, but what I saw earlier was like a kind uncle. This image... it’s a bit of a reversal of my perception. I thought you didn't like children," Racy quickly explained.
"I like children, and I like life here. That’s all, just like you like Hollywood."
"Do you know why we came back?"
"That’s your question. I think... you should tell me the answer."
"It’s like this: on the way back, I was thinking, since I chose to come here, why can't I stick to my initial intuition? You are a very good person, and you certainly wouldn't let me down."
"And now? Are you satisfied?" Qiu Fengyu spread his arms.
"Of course, I’m proud of my decision," Racy smiled. "I've never had a Thanksgiving like this. It’s wonderful. I think I’ll still be reminiscing about today’s Thanksgiving many years from now."
"As long as you're satisfied, well... I'm going to go attend to my guests. Make yourself at home!" As Qiu Fengyu said this, the singing of little Minami Yonekura began. It was a nursery rhyme sung in Japanese.
The little girl's voice was crisp and milky, very pleasant to listen to. Many people turned to look at her, and Qiu Fengyu did as well. The little girl looked toward him.
Qiu Fengyu gave her a thumbs-up. The little girl smiled, then suddenly missed a note, which immediately made everyone burst into laughter. The little girl laughed too, her clear, ringing laughter echoing over the small courtyard through the microphone.
Qiu Fengyu went over to greet Sandra; the guy seemed a bit tipsy.
"Hey, Sandra, do you need a ride home?"
"No, no, Qiu, this is too much fun! I like it here, I like you, and I like that little girl singing." Sandra looked at Qiu, swaying slightly.
"Alright, if you're saying that, it means you're definitely drunk. Hey... Tim, throw this guy back to his place. If he doesn't listen, kick him in the butt," Qiu shouted to Tim, who was busy devouring food nearby.
"Oh, seriously? I'm still a kid, how am I supposed to carry a giant like him?" Tim sucked on his fingers, then walked over and looked at the swaying Sandra.
"Stop complaining, this is a great chance to work out!" Qiu said, hoisting Sandra up and walking toward the door.
"Hey, Qiu, I'm not drunk, I can still drink! I swear, I've never eaten food this good. All the Thanksgiving meals from before were crap... I don't know how I endured that for so many years. I should have met you sooner, Qiu... please, I can do a good job, I'm a Marine..."
The guy kept rambling. Once they were outside the shop, Tim complained to Qiu: "This guy is blathering so much I want to shoot myself." He made a gun shape with his fingers and mimed pulling the trigger against his mouth.
"Get him out of here quickly. I don't want my wonderful party ruined by his vomit," Qiu said, handing Sandra over to Tim.
"Hey, Qiu, I'm not drunk, I can still..."
"Shut up, Sandra. I appreciate you coming, but... don't puke at my party. Go home and puke to your heart's content, then come back, okay?" Qiu turned around and pointed a finger at him.
"Alright, I'll go back. You have to remember... I'm a Marine!"
"I've got it, get going!" Qiu gestured for Tim to hurry.
Tim dragged the man toward where he lived.
"I'm a Marine..." Even when he was about to turn the corner on the street, the guy didn't forget to loudly proclaim his most prized identity to Qiu Fengyu.
"Oh, I'm a Marine. And I'm the most powerful Iron Man in the world!" Qiu mimicked Sandra's muttering. He turned around and was startled to find Ryoko Yonekura standing behind him, watching him.
"Oh, hell, what are you doing here?"
"That bitch likes you."
"Which bitch?" Qiu Fengyu asked, spreading his hands in confusion.
"I'll kill her!" Ryoko said coldly.
"Are you crazy?"
"Aha—did I scare you?" Ryoko suddenly laughed. "Don't worry, just a joke. Alright, I'm going back in. Forgot to tell you, today was really great."
