Xia Yang returned to his workstation and noticed that a considerable amount of snacks had mysteriously appeared on his desk. When he looked up, he was met with dozens of sympathetic gazes from his colleagues.

It seemed they had all concluded that Xia Yang was about to be fired.

“Brother Yang, how about we go have some grilled squid after work?” Song Jie suggested beside him. “Listen, we could start by working as host boys in a bar. With our looks and physiques, it wouldn't take long to earn some seed money. Then we can open a shop selling fried skewers and grilled squid…”

Song Jie rambled on enthusiastically about his business plan. Nearby, some female colleagues’ eyes gleamed at the thought of Xia Yang possibly becoming a host boy.

This was a golden opportunity!

“Stop imagining things. You’re not getting fired,” Xia Yang interrupted.

“Ah? So it’s only you, Brother Yang… Don’t worry, I’ll carry your spirit forward in the workplace!” Song Jie exclaimed.

“I’m not fired either,” Xia Yang said wearily.

His words stunned not just Song Jie but the surrounding colleagues, who all widened their eyes in disbelief.

“Caught a typical case right after taking office. No need for any scare tactics. Could it be that our new boss is a TikTok influencer…” Song Jie started to say but was quickly silenced by Xia Yang’s hand over his mouth.

“Watch your words!”

Song Jie nodded nervously. At that moment, Liu Huaide and two other employees approached, smiling as they walked over.

Playing games at work, not only was Xia Yang not fired, but he was promoted—and even his workstation was being moved into General Manager Su’s office.

Given Xia Yang’s appearance, not only Liu Huaide, the general manager, but even a fool could see that the new General Manager Su had taken a fancy to Xia Yang and wanted to keep him as a favored companion.

“Brother Xia, congratulations on your promotion,” Liu Huaide said, clapping Xia Yang firmly on the shoulder.

The office erupted in murmurs again, but with the general manager present, no one dared speak loudly; they only exchanged knowing glances.

“I’ll have them move your things to your new workspace,” Liu Huaide said, gesturing to his subordinates to bring desks and chairs.

Nobody knew what decisions the new General Manager Su would make in the future, but if Liu Huaide wanted to keep his job as general manager, he had to maintain a good relationship—starting with the young favorite of General Manager Su!

Liu Huaide thought to himself as he left with the others.

Once they were gone, the office buzzed quietly again with whispered discussions.

Xia Yang bade his colleagues goodbye and followed them to his new workstation.

Fifteen minutes later—

Inside the chairman’s office, Xia Yang sat beside Su Yixue’s desk, their eyes locked in a silent stare.

His chair was noticeably lower than hers.

The sensation reminded Xia Yang of his school days, when he wasn’t paying attention in class and was forced to sit beside the teacher’s podium as one of the assistants…

“General Manager Su… so what exactly is my job?” Xia Yang asked.

Su Yixue thought for a moment. In fact, before meeting Xia Yang, she hadn’t planned on hiring an assistant.

She could easily handle routine tasks herself, which was why she had taken over as company president at such a young age and become a leading figure in the family’s younger generation.

Besides, she didn’t fully trust others to handle her documents.

Finally, she placed a small stack of papers in front of Xia Yang and said simply, “These.”

“Am I supposed to deliver these to someone?” Xia Yang asked.

“Mm, deliver them to the shredder,” she replied.

Xia Yang was speechless.

In the end, Su Yixue told Xia Yang to find things to do on his own and that she would call on him when something came up.

With no choice, Xia Yang resumed the work he had half-finished before his promotion. He couldn’t just sit idle—although that wasn’t so bad either…

Whether it was a trick of his mind or something else, every time he bent his head to work seriously, he felt two pairs of eyes fixed intently on him.

But when he looked up at Su Yixue, there was nothing—she remained engrossed in her own work, not even sparing him a glance from the corner of her eye.

Time flew by, and gradually Xia Yang grew accustomed to this routine.

As her assistant, he bought Su Yixue lunch at noon: a bowl of spicy hot pot without the chili. It was a bit surprising.

Before he knew it, it was six o’clock in the evening. At the hour’s strike, Su Yixue stood up before him.

“Work’s over. You can go home now.”

Without waiting for his response, she walked out of the office.

Watching her retreating figure, Xia Yang exhaled deeply. He had survived the day. Working beside the boss was extremely stressful!

After tidying his desk, Xia Yang headed home.

So much happened today that he nearly forgot about his little succubus at home.

All day, Yi Hong hadn’t reached out, indicating nothing unusual at home. Around noon, Xia Yang sent a message to Yi Hong to ask about Yatina’s condition.

Yi Hong replied with a simple “She’s fine, don’t worry,” and then went silent.

Xia Yang wasn’t concerned. After being friends for so long, he trusted she wasn’t a bad person.

Hopefully.

Thinking this, Xia Yang pedaled faster until he arrived beneath his apartment.

What Xia Yang didn’t know was that a woman inside a pure black Maybach parked nearby had just witnessed him returning the bike and entering the building.

Xia Yang reached the seventeenth floor and opened his apartment door.

The room was dark and silent.

He guessed that Yatina was probably still at Yi Hong’s place. Then he knocked on the neighboring door.

There was an immediate response as Yi Hong appeared in the doorway.

Her appearance was somewhat different from that morning.

Though still in pajamas, she now wore an apron over them and sported a pair of heavy black-framed glasses.

“Senior, you’re back! Please come in!” Yi Hong greeted warmly.

“What are you doing?” Xia Yang pointed at the scissors in her hand, puzzled. Had she cooked his little demon queen?

“Oh, this? I’m making clothes for the little ones. Come see,” Yi Hong said, stepping aside.

Inside, Xia Yang’s gaze immediately fixed on Yatina sitting on the desk.

The girl was curled up, arms hugging her knees, leaning against a slime creature.

Bathed in the sunset’s glow, her figure looked even lonelier.

“She’s held that position for quite a while now. She was lively this morning, though,” Yi Hong sighed, explaining first.

Yi Hong’s greatest hobby was making clothes for various figures and dolls, evident from the numerous differently dressed dolls by her bedside.

After Xia Yang left for work, she planned to make clothes for the two magical creatures, especially Yatina.

That morning, Yatina was quite active, though she struggled fiercely when Yi Hong tried to measure her.

While designing the clothes, the little monsters gathered by her desk, plotting how to expand their influence and conquer the world.

Yi Hong was thoroughly entertained.

But by afternoon, especially around four or five o’clock as the sun began to set, Yatina’s mood grew melancholy.

Xia Yang nodded. He was grateful Yi Hong was looking after Yatina. Whatever happened wasn’t her fault, so there was nothing to blame—only thanks.

Xia Yang approached Yatina, who sensed him and slowly lifted her head.

“Human girl, that idiot human still hasn’t come to find me. Could he be dead outside?” she muttered.

Xia Yang was left speechless.
