Chapter One Hundred and One: Watching the Performance
Lu Yamei and Shan Pinghui were planning how to deal with Ba Miaomiao, but Lu Yalan had no idea. Whenever she asked, her sisters would only smile and remain silent. Seeing that they had made up their minds not to tell her, Lu Yalan stopped asking altogether. She figured she would find out soon enough anyway.
As their separation drew near, the three became increasingly cherishing of the time they still had together. Shan Pinghui, having finished her own affairs, simply moved into the Chen household, refusing to leave. Both elder sisters seized every possible moment to instruct Lu Yalan, leaving her exhausted and overwhelmed. Hongxing had intended to offer some words of comfort, but seeing Lu Yalan both complain and delight in the experience, she ultimately said nothing, instead preparing hot tea and snacks whenever her mistress needed a break.
Early one morning, Lu Yalan brought her homework to seek out Lu Yamei. Before she even entered the courtyard, she heard voices within:
“Brother Zhentian, are we really doing the right thing here? In order to deal with Liu Xuanfeng, we’ve offended far too many factions. How are we supposed to survive from now on?” Liu Yuanshan frowned, troubled.
Here we go again—the same question. Xi Ze spoke in a tone that was anything but friendly: “Why am I here? That’s a question for Director Li.” He never hesitated to show his displeasure to certain people, especially now that Li Muyin stood under grave suspicion of treason and colluding with the enemy.
“Muer, we have no other choice now!” The president of the Soul Reapers Society removed the cloth from his face, revealing sharply defined features. His eyes were bloodshot, evidently from overwork.
In the northeastern towns of the Broken Wolf Kingdom, there was actually little difference between inside and outside the city walls. Though the towns had walls, for the sake of expansion, houses and factories had long been built beyond them.
“Fine, I’ll go with you all and take a look!” With nothing else to do, and since her purpose here was to fully understand the place, she agreed.
Qingcheng Qi swept his gaze across the room, landing on two figures in black robes. Their aura was exceedingly strange—there was not a trace of humanity about them. Could they be some peculiar beings from the endless southern seas?
If we keep going like this, our society will surely dissolve. Conflict, suspicion, lack of trust—none of it can be allowed to fester.
She wondered if he would ever reach the level of Sister Yun’er, wielding sorcery as a weapon, casting beams of light that could pulverize an opponent in a single blow. The thought alone was thrilling.
Whether or not they could return was still uncertain. Yet if no other method could be found, the only option would be to open the passage below, allowing Da Bai and Da Hei to suppress the forces beneath.
Twenty minutes later, a middle-aged man entered the room, robust as an ox and clad in a black suit. At the sight of him, Xi Ze’s heart skipped a beat. He was certain this bullish man was a god-veined warrior of at least the rank of major. Xi Ze could faintly sense a powerful, vigorous aura emanating from him.
She had lost control and caused a scene at the time, unable to reign in the towering hatred within her. To deal with Wen Lian, she had even sacrificed her own tongue, yet Wen Lian remained untouched. She continued as the esteemed princess, lauded as a paragon of virtue by the people.
This new policy yielded excellent results. Guru was now responsible for inspecting goods and overseeing shipments from dawn till dusk, so busy he barely had time to breathe, while all transport duties were handled by the beastfolk employees.
A crimson shockwave swept across the land, carrying with it a battered Hundred Beasts Kaido. The same way he had appeared before Qianjie, he was now sent flying back.
Though no one was looking at her, she suddenly felt as though every mind in the room was blaming her, making her uncomfortable, as if she truly had wronged them all.
Wen Qiongyuan and Wen Zirong were both worried about the same thing. After some hesitation, they decided to stay. No one else thought it odd—perhaps the Duke of Glory wished to discuss Princess Yuelian’s marriage with His Highness. After all, it was already late April, May was just around the corner, and June was not far behind.
Yet how could the elites of the Free Society Headquarters simply sit and wait for death? Lightning, fireballs, beams of light, gales and rocks—all were hurled back in fierce retaliation. Especially Zhao Oulan, who sent forth furious beams of vengeance without cease.
