Chapter 141: Even the Wealthy Must Grovel

Chen Fang almost agreed without hesitation!
It was really just a moment away!
But fortunately, a sliver of reason kept him from speaking.
However, fifty million was truly tempting.
If he could earn that fifty million, Chen Fang’s future would be much easier. Whether it was buying songs from the system or handling other matters, he wouldn't have to worry about money in his pocket.
“Uncle Xi, are you in a hurry?” Chen Fang asked.
Xi Dong thought for a moment: “Even if we were eager to start shooting now, it probably wouldn’t happen immediately. So if you want to consider it, you have plenty of time—just give me your answer within a week.”
A week was indeed enough time for him to think it over carefully.
Of course, there was one more important question.
“Uncle Xi, if I agree, how long will filming this TV series take?”
Chen Fang didn’t want to waste too much time on this.
Xi Dong pondered briefly.
“The original plan was to shoot for six months, since there are quite a few episodes.”
“No matter how much I condense the script, the story needs to be fully presented; otherwise, the audience will be confused.”
“But if filming goes smoothly, I expect it to take between three to four months.”
Three to four months...
Still a bit long!
But much better than six months.
Chen Fang needed to consider scheduling, which was why he hesitated.
“I’ll think it over carefully and get back to you in a few days.”
After hanging up, Chen Fang sat in thought for a few seconds.
In truth, he wouldn’t pocket the entire fifty million.
The talent agency would surely take a cut, but since Chen Fang had secured this role himself, the agency’s share would be minimal. Plus, he would cooperate with the agency for the drama’s promotional activities.
The pay was very attractive!
Chen Fang just needed to weigh the cost of his time.
Turning back to his original seat, Chen Fang noticed that while he was on the phone, Pang Tong had started chatting with You Tianze—and they were getting along quite well.
You Tianze was a cook.
Pang Tong aspired to be a cook.
The two shared a common path.
However, You Tianze had always harbored dreams of acting, so he couldn’t fully focus on his cooking duties.
You Tianze didn’t ask about Chen Fang’s phone call.

After all, it was Chen Fang’s private matter.
Anyone with a bit of social grace wouldn’t pry.
But You Nianwei was clearly a person of neither high emotional nor intellectual intelligence; she curiously asked, “I vaguely heard you mention something about a crew and a TV drama. Are you going to act?”
Good grief!
This woman’s ears were remarkably sharp.
Chen Fang had walked quite far away while on the phone, yet she still managed to hear.
You Tianze shot You Nianwei a glare.
Low IQ was one thing,
but after all, the You family’s genes simply lacked the gift of high intelligence.
That was why, when their father started the family business, he chose the cooking industry—the one requiring the least intellect.
Still, the family was in business, so emotional intelligence was essential.
Sometimes, emotional intelligence was even more important than IQ.
You Tianze sometimes envied You Nianwei, who lived freely and without worries, like a carefree fool—how nice that must be.
“There really is someone wanting me to act,” Chen Fang replied softly.
It wasn’t a secret.
But until things were finalized, Chen Fang wasn’t willing to reveal which drama it was.
Hearing this, You Tianze shamelessly tried to get closer: “Bro, take me with you! I’m great at acting.”
Chen Fang smiled without replying.
If his acting were truly good, he wouldn’t be stuck cooking for the crew.
Of course, the truth would be too harsh.
Chen Fang changed the subject: “Brother You, what role do you play in the ‘Three Lives Three Worlds’ crew?”
You Tianze’s face stiffened; he was about to brush it off, but You Nianwei raised her hand like a student eager to answer in class: “I know! He plays a small street vendor, no lines, just stands there making pancakes.”
“Real pancakes or fake ones?” Pang Tong, interested in cooking, asked.
You Nianwei proudly answered, “Definitely real pancakes. The pancakes he makes are the entire crew’s lunch that day. If they were fake, what would the crew eat?”
You Tianze: ...
Damn it!
Going out with You Nianwei was a mistake!
Chen Fang looked at You Tianze.
He had thought You Tianze was a nondescript extra.
But no—
he was even below that.
If it weren’t for the need to provide lunch for the entire crew, there might not even be a street vendor role.
In other dramas, street vendors at least had a few lines shouting, “Freshly steamed buns, only three coins each!” But You Tianze didn’t even have a single line.
Chen Fang wisely let the topic drop and moved on to today’s main subject: “Pang Tong, my brother here plans to open a mid-to-high-end restaurant in Kyoto. The location is already chosen, but he needs help with the interior design and ongoing operations. We’ll have to trouble you guys.”
The You family was very familiar with restaurants.
You Tianze’s confidence returned immediately.
This was a return to his roots!
Of course, he didn’t think much of it.
Pang Tong was just opening a restaurant—how could it affect the You family’s business?
You Nianwei carefully sized up Pang Tong, nodding occasionally, seeming somewhat satisfied: “Although he’s not as handsome as you, he’s quite easy on the eyes after a while and tall enough. Having him pretend to be my boyfriend should fool everyone.”
This had been prearranged.
Pang Tong would impersonate You Nianwei’s boyfriend, and You Nianwei would help with the restaurant.
You Tianze was thoughtful for a moment.
That’s right!
He could find a girl to pretend to be his girlfriend, just to appease the two family members pressuring him to marry, and deal with the rest later.
However, You Tianze looked at You Nianwei with disdain: “Do you know anything about designing and running a high-end restaurant?”
You Nianwei retorted defiantly, “Otherwise, why would I bring you out? You really think I’m just taking you out for fun?”
You Tianze was confirmed as the tool in this scenario.
Chen Fang began to understand.
In the You family, You Tianze ranked lowest.
But in terms of IQ and EQ, he was a natural businessman. He knew when to speak and when to stay silent, so You Tianze’s parents taught him all about managing and operating restaurants, leaving You Nianwei out of it.
That might be why You Nianwei was carefree and happy.
The family had protected her too well.
All she needed to do was eat, drink, and play.
Chen Fang couldn’t help but envy her.
He wished he had a dozen houses, several buildings, and dozens of restaurants—just idling away without a care.
“Bro, leave the restaurant stuff to me.”
“And when there’s a chance, please introduce me to Su Murou—just to chat and have a meal.”
Chen Fang smiled and nodded.
As expected!
Even the wealthy could be bootlickers. Don’t you agree, Wang Sicong brother?
