Chapter 87: One Wave of Filth After Another
After a long and bumpy stretch, Chen Fang returned to the duplex villa a little after three in the morning. Pang Tong had already given him the password to the new home’s front door, so he got in with ease.
Back in his room, Chen Fang looked somewhat worn out.
Today had been far too busy.
He had spent the entire day in the recording studio.
After a quick wash and brush-up, he lay down on the bed and gazed through the glass overhead at the brilliant night sky. The stars were strewn across it like scattered jewels, beautiful beyond words.
Before he knew it, Chen Fang had fallen asleep.
The night passed without incident.
The next day.
Chen Fang was awakened by a phone call.
“Who is this?”
He was a little grumpy when waking up, though not nearly as bad as the system.
Xie Yuanyuan’s voice came through the line. “Chen Fang, don’t go to the company these next few days. Quite a few extreme fans have gathered outside, and we’re worried you might be in danger.”
Chen Fang’s drowsiness vanished at once. “Fans of Kang Zikai?”
“Doesn’t seem like it.”
The concern in Xie Yuanyuan’s tone was unmistakable.
Hearing that, Chen Fang thought for a moment and rejected her suggestion. “If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll probably need to go to the company every day for a while. Wang Situ and I have to rehearse the song for the show, and if we don’t use the company studio, we won’t have anywhere to practice.”
Chen Fang himself didn’t mind.
But Wang Situ needed plenty of practice.
Since Wang Situ was rehearsing in the studio, Chen Fang certainly couldn’t let her practice alone. He had to point out whatever was lacking.
So he needed to go to the company too.
Of course, Chen Fang actually had another option.
He could take Wang Situ to Ji Mei’s villa to rehearse. Ji Mei’s place had a recording studio as well, fully equipped.
But Chen Fang didn’t want to do that.
Taking another woman to Ji Mei’s home felt rather awkward.
Besides, Wang Situ had even invited Chen Fang to stay over at a hotel last night.
With that in mind, Chen Fang was even less daring about bringing Wang Situ in front of Ji Mei.
Xie Yuanyuan was silent for a few seconds. “Then I’ll be responsible for driving you to and from work.”
Chen Fang didn’t refuse. “All right.”
After hanging up, Chen Fang got up to exercise, washed up, and casually checked the trending topics online.
Goodness.
So that was it.
Kang Zikai had pulled out another big move.
This time, it wasn’t just him appearing on a livestream camera. Instead, all the trainees he had lured away appeared together to speak out, denouncing the injustice of Future Star Path.
Chen Fang was somewhat surprised.
Just how much of a grudge did this Chuangxiang Entertainment have against Future Star Path?
They were actually trying this hard to ruin it.
Chen Fang searched around.
Then, all at once, he discovered something interesting.
The company where Ke Min and Cheng Jie had once been signed was a subsidiary of Chuangxiang Entertainment, and the company Kang Zikai had defected to was also Chuangxiang Entertainment.
Thinking of Cheng Jie, a cold smile tugged at Chen Fang’s lips.
So.
This guy never learned his lesson.
During the filming of We Fell in Love Together, Cheng Jie had already suffered quite a bit, yet he still refused to give up and had ended up hooking up with Kang Zikai.
A washed-up pretty-boy idol.
And a filthy, no-good effeminate creep.
Chuangxiang Entertainment’s taste was truly unique.
At eight in the morning, Chen Fang left home.
Xie Yuanyuan’s car was already parked outside the gate.
Looking at Chen Fang’s new home, Xie Yuanyuan took off her sunglasses and clicked her tongue in amazement. “Our big star Chen has made it now, buying a whole new house outright.”
“Rented,” Chen Fang said.
Xie Yuanyuan got in and started the engine. “Why not buy it?”
Chen Fang’s earning power was astonishing now. There had been the five million from An Tinghan’s song purchase, then the royalties from various music platforms, plus the ten million transferred to him by Xie Dong. Chen Fang was already a multimillionaire.
Buying a house was hardly difficult.
Chen Fang wanted to buy one too.
But whenever he thought of the two thousand yuan in his bank account, what the hell was there to buy?
He could only smile helplessly. “I’ll save a bit more and buy a bigger one.”
Hearing that, Xie Yuanyuan shrugged.
To be honest, she quite liked this little duplex. Though it wasn’t large, small had its own advantages, and the environment was good too.
Chen Fang was quietly thinking that it was time to buy a car.
Otherwise, getting around was a little inconvenient.
Besides, there were times when he wanted to drive Ji Mei out for a little fun.
Half an hour later, Xie Yuanyuan bypassed the main entrance and drove into the underground parking lot, then took the internal elevator with Chen Fang up into the company.
“These people are insane.”
In Xie Yuanyuan’s office, Chen Fang stood before the floor-to-ceiling window looking down. A crowd had gathered at the company gate. Some held banners full of insults and abuse, and some were even throwing things at the entrance.
Xie Yuanyuan frowned slightly.
Call the police?
It was useless.
These people made trouble at the gate of Future Star Path, and the moment the police arrived, they would all run off. As soon as the police left, they would come back again.
These people weren’t fans.
They had been hired to disgust Future Star Path, while the self-media reporters not far away took pictures and wrote articles.
Chen Fang’s expression remained calm, as if he had long grown used to such shameless scenes. “Just petty tricks.”
Seeing that, Xie Yuanyuan looked surprised.
Chen Fang’s bearing now looked nothing like that of a singer; he looked more like a boss.
Qian Youlai was no ordinary person.
To establish such a large entertainment company, and then, in the years when Future Star Path’s reputation was at its worst, still grit his teeth and hold on—just those two things alone made him someone impossible to underestimate.
Though Qian Youlai usually seemed all smiles, a man like that was the truly frightening kind when he turned ruthless.
Chen Fang found himself looking forward to it.
How would Qian Youlai strike back?
Or perhaps.
He could give things a little push from behind the scenes.
“I have to go to a meeting.”
Xie Yuanyuan quickly tidied up her files.
Chen Fang set down his teacup. “Then I’ll take Wang Situ to the studio. If anything comes up, come find me there.”
Xie Yuanyuan nodded.
The two parted at the office door.
By the time Chen Fang reached the recording studio, Wang Situ had already arrived and was practicing in the inner studio.
Seeing this, Chen Fang felt very gratified.
He liked hardworking people.
Wang Situ was practicing with great focus.
She was trying hard to find the passionate, soaring emotion Chen Fang had spoken of.
Chen Fang didn’t interrupt her.
After quite some time, Wang Situ came out to get some water, and only then did she notice Chen Fang.
“You’re here,” Wang Situ said with a smile.
Today she had changed back into her usual attire, and this was the real Wang Situ.
“Take a break. I’ll sing it once for you to hear,” Chen Fang said, walking into the inner studio.
Actually, he had wanted to demonstrate it himself yesterday.
But he had overused his voice yesterday, so for the sake of his throat, he hadn’t sung it for Wang Situ. After resting for a night, his voice had recovered somewhat.
Hearing that, Wang Situ obediently sat down on the sofa, her beautiful eyes bright with anticipation.
Chen Fang chose to sing a cappella.
However, he didn’t merely demonstrate Wang Situ’s part; instead, he sang the entire song from beginning to end.
When the song ended, Wang Situ immediately understood.
This song, Lady Xiang, was fundamentally a queenly anthem. From the title alone, and certainly from the lyrics, one could clearly feel that. Therefore, the male part was only meant as a supporting line.
And Wang Situ’s female part was the most crucial section of all.
In simple terms.
Chen Fang could coast.
But Wang Situ absolutely could not.
