Chapter Ninety-Three: "The Brightest Star in the Night Sky"
She could not help bursting into laughter, nearly rolling off the sofa.
"Chen Fang, that expression of yours is priceless!"
"Hahahahaha."
"How did you and An Tinghan manage to get every single answer wrong!"
Tears were streaming down Su Murou's face as she laughed. It was plain to see she was delighted beyond measure.
Chen Fang's face stiffened as he defended himself. "Before filming this show, An Tinghan and I had no contact, no interaction. How could I possibly guess the questions about her correctly?"
Before this dating show began, the greatest point of contact between Chen Fang and An Tinghan had been a business deal at the company for buying a song. Setting aside work, Chen Fang knew nothing at all about her private life.
And the same was true for An Tinghan.
"Then how did the other couples get so many right?" Su Murou asked.
Chen Fang let out a sneer. "They must have compared notes in advance. I don't believe they have that kind of tacit understanding."
He looked down on such cheating.
It was utterly unreal.
Ji Mei was laughing too.
Seeing this, Chen Fang reached out to tease her, as if to say that if she dared laugh at her man, she would not be sleeping tonight.
Ji Mei dodged his mischievous hand, her face flushed, her breathing growing a little uneven.
Gradually, Su Murou could no longer laugh.
Chen Fang and Ji Mei really did not treat her like an outsider at all.
Ji Mei caught Chen Fang's hand and said, "Watch the television."
Only then did Chen Fang withdraw his hand.
He glanced at Su Murou, feeling thoroughly pleased with himself. Single folks love to laugh? Let us see if you still can now.
The live comments online were in an uproar.
"That look on Chen Fang's face, I am making it into a sticker and saving it on my phone."
"Even Chen Fang is dumbfounded. How could they get every single question wrong?"
"There has to be something off somewhere."
"Hahahahaha, An Tinghan's expression is even funnier. The question marks on her forehead are about to burst out of the screen."
"A hilarious couple, I am in love."
"I just love this kind of natural feeling."
......
Chen Fang had not expected that scoring zero would instead win him a wave of goodwill from the viewers.
Of course, there were also a small number scolding him.
Why had he not spent more time learning about An Tinghan's life, personality, and hobbies before joining the show?
He clearly did not care about the program or An Tinghan at all.
Those comments were simply ignored.
Among the countless funny bullet comments, the nitpicking ones could not stir up any real waves.
Back to the show.
Chen Fang and An Tinghan scored zero in the compatibility challenge, so they could only choose their room last. By the time the other three couples had selected theirs, only a tent remained for Chen Fang and An Tinghan.
Chen Fang's expression went blank too.
After all that effort, taking cars and boats, rushing here before six in the evening, he had thought he would not have to sleep in a tent tonight. And then the production team pulled this on him?
If I had known, I might as well have been late!
Chen Fang still remembered the complaint he had muttered inwardly back then.
Fortunately, the rain stopped at night.
Chen Fang and An Tinghan squeezed into the tent, each with a sleeping bag, naturally not sleeping together.
The tent roof resembled the ceiling of the room in Chen Fang's duplex loft, both transparent, allowing them to see the night sky above.
The scene shifted.
The next day arrived.
The first day of the four couples' date trip officially began.
Most viewers focused their attention on Chen Fang and An Tinghan, because the way they got along was simply too amusing, always drawing laughter from the audience.
The other three couples were all busy with coy glances and romance.
When the camera turned to Chen Fang's side, it was a completely different style.
And yet, strangely enough, this comedic style gave the audience a sense of warmth and authenticity.
The filming of the other couples felt somewhat too deliberate.
The editing team noticed this as they cut the footage, and so the viewers gradually discovered that Chen Fang and An Tinghan appeared on screen far longer than the other three couples.
Each episode ran for a full two hours.
Yet the time Chen Fang and An Tinghan occupied on screen alone reached an entire hour.
On the third day of filming, An Tinghan had already forgotten all about the fact that she was filming a show.
She was fully immersed in being with Chen Fang, unable to extricate herself.
One could only say that Chen Fang made handling a young girl like An Tinghan far too easy.
Everyone noticed something was off: the way An Tinghan looked at Chen Fang was growing increasingly strange. Her gaze had become so tender it was practically threadlike.
"Is my wife really going to fall for that bastard Chen?"
"Wuwu, wife, this is just a show! Don't fall into the trap!"
"Chen the bastard, draw your sword and fight!"
"I suspect Chen Fang has dozens of ex-girlfriends. No joke, this needs a thorough investigation."
"Chen the scumbag, stop it, let go of my wife!"
"Raise the banner against Chen Fang high, I am shipping this."
An Tinghan was like a little girl, following Chen Fang's lead step by step, with no will of her own left.
But to be fair, if any woman spent a few days with Chen Fang, she would probably be much the same as An Tinghan.
Unless she were a mature woman of some years, only then might she retain a sliver of reason under Chen Fang's assault.
In the villa's living room, Chen Fang held Ji Mei close.
He was especially worried that she might be jealous.
He did not care what the others thought.
Ji Mei smiled and wriggled in his arms. She was not so petty, besides, this was a dating show, and this degree of closeness was entirely within acceptable bounds.
Su Murou rolled her eyes.
You really are spoiling him!
If it were her, and her boyfriend were batting such flirtatious glances at another woman, she would never be able to tolerate it, even if it were only for a show.
Time came to the evening of the fourth day.
The other couples were getting along harmoniously, though there was always a faint sense of distance between them. One pair seemed to have run into some conflict as well, the pair with Cheng Jie. There were clearly two beds in the room, yet at night Cheng Jie did not sleep there. Instead, he ran to the sofa outside to sleep.
A great deal of the footage had been cut from the edit.
So the audience did not know exactly what had happened.
Only from the way Cheng Jie and the female celebrity interacted could one tell that the relationship between the two was growing worse and worse, to the point where they barely even spoke.
Because of that, this couple had the shortest screen time.
Chen Fang knew the inside story.
However, for something like this, it would be better to expose it after everything was over.
The smear campaign against Kang Zikai and Chen Fang's future stardom likely had the backing of Creative Entertainment, and Cheng Jie was also from Creative Entertainment. The explosive evidence in Chen Fang's hands needed to be released at the right moment for maximum effect.
On the fifth day of filming, at night, the camera once again turned to Chen Fang and An Tinghan.
It was still the tent.
During these days, the production team had given Chen Fang and An Tinghan many chances to change their accommodation, but their tacit understanding seemed naturally to be zero.
In the frame, Chen Fang and An Tinghan lay side by side, with a fist's width between them.
Through the transparent top of the tent, they gazed up at the night sky over Dream Cloud Island, where stars sparkled in profusion, beautiful to behold.
Playful captions appeared at just the right moment, adding a wash of quiet romance to the serene scene.
The next second, An Tinghan turned to look at Chen Fang, her beautiful eyes full of expectation. "Chen Fang, it is a little too early to sleep now. Let's sing."
Chen Fang looked up at the star-filled sky. What should they sing?
Suddenly, he sprang to his feet and smiled as he held out a hand to her. "Want to take a walk on the beach?"
In an instant, An Tinghan's eyes curved into crescent moons as she smiled. "All right."
The two left the tent and came to the shore of Dream Cloud Island.
There was no electric light, but the moonlight and starlight were bright.
Chen Fang and An Tinghan sat down together on a reef by the beach and borrowed a guitar from the production team. "Should we sing together?"
An Tinghan rested her chin in her hands and looked up at Chen Fang's face bathed in moonlight. "I want to hear you sing."
"Then I'll sing you a song called The Brightest Star in the Night Sky."
"My own original song."
"You will be the first person to hear it."
