Chapter Seventy-One: I Haven't Gotten On the Car Yet!
The new home had already been chosen, but Chen Fang didn’t have time to move in just yet. Pang Tong understood that, now that Chen Fang had become an entertainer, his work would keep him busy, so he told Chen Fang to focus on the variety show and promised to move Chen Fang’s things when he moved himself.
As for the new address—it was a bit outside the city, but getting around was easy. The small two-story duplex was near a large amusement park, with both bus and metro access being extremely convenient.
Once all arrangements were settled, Chen Fang washed up and went to bed.
The next morning, Chen Fang woke early, as usual, to open a box.
He had noticed a pattern: the items he got from morning box openings tended to be better than those opened at midnight. Of course, this wasn’t always the case, but after so many days, he’d developed that impression.
“Open box,” Chen Fang said, eyeing the treasure chest in his inventory. His obsessive-compulsive tendencies wouldn’t let him leave it unopened.
“Opening box…”
“Congratulations, host, you have received a sack of shampoo.”
Chen Fang: … Damn!
This system was messing with him!
“Stupid system, are you messing with me? All these days, it’s either laundry detergent or body wash, and now shampoo? You call yourself the Ultimate Entertainment System? Are you trying to open a hair salon with me?”
Chen Fang couldn’t take it anymore.
Was the system really proud of these rewards?
He really wanted to ask: was he ever going to finish using up an entire sack of shampoo?
Infuriating!
The system, however, was unhurried and replied, “Host, please remain calm. You already made a huge profit by buying the rights to ‘East Wind Breaks’ for five million. Naturally, there must be some loss in the box openings.”
Just as he thought!
Of course, the stingy system was still hung up on “East Wind Breaks.”
Chen Fang took a deep breath. “Fine, I admit I got a good deal. But come on, you’re supposed to be an entertainment system—should you really be giving out daily necessities every day? You could at least give me something like a melodica; that’s still a musical instrument and somewhat related to entertainment.”
The system was silent for a few seconds.
“The host makes a good point.”
“In that case, I’ll swap the shampoo for a melodica.”
Chen Fang: ?
I was just making an example!
You’re really giving me a melodica?
Chen Fang couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
With a system like this, even his low blood pressure would be cured in no time.
Perhaps the system realized it had gone too far. It added, “In addition to the melodica, I’ll compensate you with another box.”
The next second, a melodica appeared in Chen Fang’s hand.
Immediately after, a new treasure chest was placed in his inventory.
“Would you like to open the box?” the system asked.
Chen Fang curled his lips. “No.”
Amazing! Even his obsessive-compulsive tendencies were cured by this system.
He washed his face, greeted Pang Tong, and left for the company.
For the upcoming week, Chen Fang wouldn’t be able to return home; he’d have to stay at a location arranged by the production team. Pang Tong could use this time to move, so once Chen Fang finished filming the variety show, he could go straight to the new home without coming back here.
Half an hour later, Chen Fang arrived at the company entrance. He was early; by the scheduled time, the “Let’s Fall in Love” production team would send someone to pick him up.
Just then, a familiar voice called out from behind.
Chen Fang turned to see two figures—one tall and one short—standing behind him.
Xi Yuanyuan and Wang Situ.
Today, Wang Situ wore a brand-new, clean outfit.
Her looks were above average. Perhaps because she didn’t take care of her skin, it was a bit rough, and with her glasses, her features didn’t stand out at first glance. But those legs… were simply stunning.
Her grayish-white, tight-fitting jeans hugged her long legs, a paradise for leg enthusiasts.
By comparison, Xi Yuanyuan’s legs seemed a bit short.
But in truth, Xi Yuanyuan wasn’t short at all. For a woman, being over one-seventy meters was already quite tall. It was only when she stood next to Wang Situ that she seemed a bit like a southern potato.
“Like what you see?” Xi Yuanyuan narrowed her eyes slightly.
“I wasn’t even looking at you,” Chen Fang replied, his eyes still lingering on Wang Situ’s legs.
He was pondering a serious question.
Perhaps he could craft a “National Leg Queen” persona for Wang Situ.
After all, those legs were right there.
Wang Situ seemed unfazed. She’d had plenty of men obsessed with her legs—let them look, it’s not like they had the right to touch.
“Wang Situ, when I get back from filming, let’s talk about your legs,” Chen Fang said with utmost seriousness.
Wang Situ was taken aback.
Was this an unspoken rule proposition?
But wasn’t this a bit too blatant?
She frowned slightly, and after a long silence, finally replied, “Alright.”
Chen Fang nodded with satisfaction—a promising student.
Wang Situ’s thoughts were simple: if she had to be subject to the unspoken rules, at least Chen Fang was handsome. Besides, in this industry, such things were unavoidable. Better him than some greasy, pot-bellied investor.
There were no “pure” people left in showbiz these days!
Xi Yuanyuan’s anger flared. “Saying these things right in front of me! Chen Fang, you’re really bold!”
Others did such things in secret.
Chen Fang, though, didn’t bother to hide.
He was briefly taken aback. “I’m talking to Wang Situ about work. Why are you so upset?”
Work?
Xi Yuanyuan worried Chen Fang’s “work” would end up in bed.
She was about to retort when Chen Fang changed the subject. “Those two songs from yesterday—make sure to release them soon. If you wait and the hype dies down, the effect won’t be as good.”
At that, Xi Yuanyuan replied with a grumpy “mm.”
“See you in a week,” Chen Fang said, waving.
He had already seen the “Let’s Fall in Love” production team’s bus.
Xi Yuanyuan and Wang Situ saw it too.
Soon, the bus stopped in front of Future Stardom’s entrance.
The doors opened slowly, and a staff member in the show’s uniform stepped out, beaming. “Mr. Chen Fang, I’m the PD assigned to accompany you by the ‘Let’s Fall in Love’ team. My surname is Wang; just call me Xiao Wang.”
Another staff member carrying a camera got off the bus as well.
Chen Fang was a bit taken aback.
Was the filming starting already?
“Let’s get going,” he said, about to board.
But Xiao Wang stopped him with a cheerful grin and pulled a card from his pocket. “Mr. Chen Fang, here is your first mission card. Please read it carefully and complete the assigned task.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the bus started up again.
Before Chen Fang could react, it sped off.
He blinked, stunned.
Wait!
I haven’t gotten on the bus!
Did they just leave me behind?
