Chapter 128: Thirty years east, thirty years west, a single sleeve covers the heavens!
Not long after Lu Wufei's departure, two figures rushed swiftly across the pitch-black night sky from the west.
In a short while, they reached the airspace above the mountain bearing the gigantic palm print.
One figure was slender, clad in a blue robe, appearing as a youthful man with a cold, dark complexion.
The other was solidly built, clad in armor, appearing middle-aged and stern-faced.
Looking at the terrifying colossal palm print below, which spanned half a mountain, and feeling the residual chaotic and churning spiritual power lingering in the surroundings, the middle-aged figure grew increasingly alarmed and could not help speaking, "Great King, this aura..."
The dark-faced youth nodded coldly, "You are not mistaken. A Demon King was active here not long ago..."
"And a general has died."
"Can you identify whose aura of death that is?"
As the dark-faced youth spoke again, the middle-aged figure immediately replied, "Please wait a moment, Great King."
With that, the middle-aged figure flew down into the center of the palm print, circled around, and quickly flew back to report, "Reporting to the Great King, the aura of the deceased demon is not one I recognize. Perhaps it was an outsider demon..."
"Though it is more likely someone from our Great Desolate Mountain."
The dark-faced youth said coldly, "These surroundings are entirely the territory of my Great Desolate Mountain. Where would so many outsider demons come from?"
"Hah, a strange Demon King dares to sneak into our territory and slaughter our demons!"
"Utterly audacious!"
"I recall this is Bai Yunxiao's territory, isn't it?"
The middle-aged figure immediately nodded, pointing outward, "Yes, Great King, General Bai's main mountain is right over there."
"Let's go and see what on earth has happened!"
With that, the dark-faced youth turned and flew toward the main mountain of Langlang Mountain in the east.
Meanwhile, on Langlang Mountain, before the General's Cave:
As Commander Sheep blew the whistle for an emergency gathering, which echoed across the entire peak of Langlang Mountain, all the demons rushed toward the main mountain at top speed.
By now, a dense crowd of demons had already gathered on the spacious open ground and slopes before the General's Cave, and numerous others were still hurrying in from various peaks.
Being summoned to gather at this hour instantly set the demons chattering in a flurry of discussions.
"Calling us to gather so late, is something major happening?"
"Could it be that we're going to war?"
"War... with whom?"
"I don't know. Isn't that what everyone is saying?"
"Bollocks! I reckon it's far more likely we're going to hold a banquet. Why else would they summon us this late?"
"What you say makes sense..."
The lesser demons were clueless and tossed about all sorts of wild guesses.
The demon generals and chieftains gathered together, gazing toward the brightly lit General's Cave in the distance, and began speculating among themselves as well.
"For Commander Sheep to summon us this late, I'm afraid something big is afoot."
"I heard Commander Bear has become a general. With this gathering now, could it be related to him?"
"I heard Commander Bear's voice this afternoon as well. I think there's a strong possibility..."
"Eh, isn't that Commander Red-Skin?"
"And those two, Chief Black-Head, Chief Yellow, Chief Wandashan, and the whole faction from Taiping Mountain? Why are they here? They look as though they arrived even before us."
"Ah, I see. Now I'm certain, tonight's affair is definitely related to Commander Bear."
"You must have been promoted recently, so you don't know the grudge between the Taiping Mountain faction and Commander Bear—no, General Bear, right?"
"No idea..."
"Hehe, let me tell you, that's quite a tale."
"General Bear is definitely going to bully the demons of the Taiping Mountain faction this time."
"It's just a pity that General Bai of Taiping Mountain is gone. Otherwise, hum, General Bear wouldn't even dare to let out a peep."
"Oh? General Bai of Taiping Mountain? Do tell."
"That's a long story. That General Bai Lang was once from our mountain as well. He could definitely be counted as the strongest demon ever produced by Langlang Mountain, but alas..."
"Alas what?"
The speaking demon was about to continue, but upon seeing a figure emerge from the General's Cave, he promptly clamped his mouth shut and said, "The General has come out."
"I'll tell you the rest next time."
Upon seeing General Bai appear, the noisy clamor of the demons before the General's Cave immediately quieted down considerably.
"General..."
At that moment, Commander Sheep stepped forward with his long whiskers fluttering and spoke, "The little ones have mostly arrived."
Hearing this, Bai Yunxiao nodded and stepped forward.
By then, all the demons had fallen silent.
"In a moment, no matter what you encounter, stay quiet, do not panic, and there is no need to be afraid."
Having said that, Bai Yunxiao said no more and merely gazed toward the west.
The demons, who had just been making all sorts of confident guesses, grew even more puzzled and bewildered.
They began whispering among themselves in low voices.
Nearby, the Crow Monster, Huang Gui, and Red-Skin stood together, looking at Bai Yunxiao as the Crow Monster whispered, "What do you suppose General Bai meant by those words just now?"
Huang Gui shook his head, "I don't know. I'm much more curious about what business big brother said he went off to handle earlier."
Red-Skin narrowed his eyes slightly as he withdrew his gaze from the ox demon Long-Tail and his faction—who were sworn brothers of Big-Head Bear—and spoke up, "Big-Head Bear isn't here."
As soon as he said this, Huang Gui reacted instantly and whispered in a low voice, "Third Brother, are you saying big brother's departure has to do with that Big-Head Bear?"
Hearing this, the Crow Monster's eyes lit up instantly. He caught on as well, immediately chiming in in a low voice, "Could the business big brother mentioned handling be dealing with Big-Head Bear?"
As soon as those words fell, Red-Skin and Huang Gui felt a shock ripple through their hearts. They had harbored suspicions, but they hadn't expected the Crow Monster to state it so directly.
"Alright."
Red-Skin immediately spoke up, "Stop guessing, everyone. We'll know once big brother arrives."
Time slowly ticked by.
Just as the demons of Langlang Mountain waited in anxious perplexity, a streak of azure light flew rapidly across the western sky.
Accompanying it was an overwhelmingly vast, crushing, and terrifying aura, vast as a collapsing mountain.
This aura, far more formidable than any they had ever witnessed from their Great King before, instantly struck all the demons dumb and silenced them completely.
The azure light landed and transformed into the slender human-like form of a male with azure robes and long silver hair.
Sensing this terrifying aura, Bai Yunxiao's expression shifted through a series of changes before quickly settling into firm resolve. He immediately strode forward and asked, "Young Brother, how did it go?"
"I've dealt with him," Lu Wufei said casually. "Had it not been for Your Excellency's trust in him, I would have butchered him long ago."
Hearing this, Bai Yunxiao shook his head, "Who could have foreseen he would turn out like this? It was my poor judgment."
Lu Wufei shook his head, "It is not Your Excellency's poor judgment; Your Excellency is benevolent, but that bear demon lacks any such mindset. Even if I hadn't returned this time, that bear demon would have inevitably turned out this way sooner or later."
"It is simply his inherent nature."
While Lu Wufei and Bai Yunxiao conversed, the demons not far away began chattering among themselves once more.
Especially those who had guessed Lu Wufei's identity—they looked excited as they enlightened the surrounding demons about Lu Wufei's various glorious past deeds.
Among the faction of demons from Taiping Mountain:
At that moment, gazing upon the features and appearance of their big brother in his azure robe and human form, they were all struck by a mixture of profound shock and immense joy.
"Is that big brother?"
"Definitely! Didn't you see big brother's clothes? They're identical to what we saw earlier."
"Still, this is the first time I've ever seen big brother like this. I'm really not used to it."
"Me too. Truly a rare sight."
"Hehe, Wandashan, General Bai's human appearance is truly handsome."
"Naturally, that's my father."
"However, Third Mother, you needn't harbor any illusions; you're not worthy of my father."
"You child, how can you speak so cruelly?"
"You needn't be angry, I'm merely speaking the truth."
"Third Brother..."
At that moment, Huang Gui looked at big brother not far away and whispered to Red-Skin beside him, "What realm do you think big brother's cultivation has reached now?"
Red-Skin shook his head, "I don't know. However, we've met the Great King a few times before. When big brother returned just now, I felt that his aura was even more formidable than the Great King's."
Hearing this, Huang Gui's eyes widened in a mix of excitement and disbelief as he blurted out, "You mean...?"
On the other side, Lu Wufei looked at Bai Yunxiao and said, "The commotion from my action just now probably won't remain hidden from those old demons for long. Is Your Excellency prepared?"
Bai Yunxiao smiled and nodded, "It was only after hearing what Young Brother said that I realized—perhaps when I first took Young Brother to meet the Third Great King, he had already been harboring malicious intentions toward Young Brother!"
"And the reason I've been able to live until now is probably thanks to their dread of the immortal sect behind Young Brother!"
"It is good that Your Excellency understands!"
Lu Wufei nodded, "With your cultivation and mine today, there is no need to rely on other demons any longer. We shall claim a territory of our own and become kings—what a splendid idea."
Bai Yunxiao smiled at this, "As for me, I still possess self-awareness; everything will depend on Young Brother!"
Lu Wufei reached out, patted Bai Yunxiao's shoulder, and smiled, "Between brothers, we don't speak of separate households."
At that very moment, Lu Wufei's expression shifted slightly. After making a silent mental calculation, he immediately turned his gaze toward the west.
Seeing this, Bai Yunxiao promptly asked, "What is it?"
"It seems we've been discovered," Lu Wufei said. "From that direction, it is likely that the Third Great King is approaching."
"There's no time to lose, Your Excellency. I must make my move."
Hearing this, Bai Yunxiao's expression shifted, and he immediately said, "Young Brother, proceed as you must."
Lu Wufei asked again, "The commotion of the battle between those three old demons and myself certainly won't be small. Would Your Excellency care to step inside my sleeve to take shelter?"
This time, however, Bai Yunxiao shook his head, "Young Brother need not worry. If I cannot even weather this much, I would scarcely be worthy of being Young Brother's elder brother."
"Young Brother, go ahead and act freely without any concern for me!"
Sensing that it might indeed be inappropriate to have Bai Yunxiao hide within his cosmos-in-a-sleeve technique, Lu Wufei pressed the matter no further and nodded, "Very well."
With that, he turned and walked toward the crowd of demons.
A vast and imposing aura instantly emanated from him, enveloping the entire mountain peak in a split second.
The lesser demons instantly clamped their mouths shut.
Lu Wufei looked upon the lesser demons and said, "Some of you among us recognize me, while others do not..."
"It matters not. From this day forward, all of you will come to know me."
"Soon, certain events will transpire. You need neither fear nor worry."
"I am here to handle everything."
With those words, Lu Wufei rapidly soared into mid-air, his azure robes fluttering without any wind.
Immediately following that, the wind and clouds in the sky shifted dramatically as fierce gales arose.
Raising his hand mid-air, Lu Wufei watched as his wide sleeves rapidly ballooned, blotting out the sky and covering the earth.
All the lesser demons on the mountain peak below instantly turned deathly pale with shock and trembled uncontrollably.
"Offer no resistance, harbor no fear."
"Step inside and wait in peace."
His thunderous voice echoed swiftly in every demon's ears.
It carried a pacifying, magical quality that instantly caused the fear gripping the demons' hearts to plummet.
Then, as the sky-covering sleeve swept down, the demons felt their vision turn pitch black, and they lost all consciousness.
With a wave of his hand, he swept up all nine hundred demons of Langlang Mountain.
Lu Wufei turned to face the west.
Sensing the anomalies in the western sky as well, Bai Yunxiao immediately flew up into mid-air and took his place beside Lu Wufei.
Before long, the two of them spotted two figures appearing in the night sky at the edge of their vision.
Accompanied by them was an overwhelming, monstrous momentum.
Very quickly, those two figures appeared clearly before the two brothers, Lu Wufei and Bai Yunxiao.
The leading figure was slender with a dark face—it was Baimian, the Third Great King of the Great Desolate Mountain.
Walking beside him, solidly built with middle-aged features, was Dilong, the premier general under Baimian's command.
"It's you!"
As the Third Great King Baimian flew closer, he looked at Lu Wufei's face and said coldly, "Bai Lang, back then you slaughtered three generals of your own faction and fled the Great Desolate Mountain as a traitor. To think you'd dare return today!"
"Hahahaha!"
Hearing this, Lu Wufei burst into roaring laughter and retorted, "I fled as a traitor?!"
"That is nothing short of a monstrous joke!"
"Back then, upon returning from my studies, I pledged my allegiance to your command. And what happened? You harbored malicious designs, colluding with your two brothers to seize my sect's immortal arts!"
"Driven to desperation, I had no choice but to slay the thieves and run for my life!"
"It was clearly the three of you old demons who coveted my sect's immortal arts and attempted to plunder them by force, yet you turn around and slander me for betraying the demon clan. You three brothers are utterly shameless, heartless, and the scum of the demon race!"
Lu Wufei unleashed a torrent of abuse, leaving Baimian's face dark with fury and his brow twitching incessantly. General Dilong, standing beside him, could no longer stomach it and shouted angrily, "Audacious! Bai Lang, how dare you address the Great King—"
"Shut your trap!"
Lu Wufei barked out a cold interruption, turning his gaze toward General Dilong. His look was as sharp as an arrow, so piercing that General Dilong lost his footing and stumbled backward.
"What manner of creature are you, that you dare bark in my presence!"
Lu Wufei spoke coldly and flicked his sleeve. General Dilong, who had just regained his footing, felt himself struck violently by a surging, overwhelming force, and his entire body was sent flying backward through the air.
Fortunately, the Third Great King Baimian acted promptly, catching General Dilong and keeping him from falling further.
Even so, Baimian was half a beat too slow.
The moment General Dilong steadied himself, he spewed a large mouthful of dark blood, his complexion turning deathly pale and his aura plunging into extreme weakness.
Seeing his premier general severely injured by Lu Wufei with a mere flick of his hand, Baimian wore a dark expression as he spoke, "You are already a Demon King. Do you not find it beneath you to make a move against lesser demons?"
"Beneath me..."
Lu Wufei sneered, "You make it sound as though you haven't done plenty of it yourself!"
"Lacking in manners, utterly ignorant of the hierarchy of respect!"
"He courted his own death."
Listening to the exchange between Bai Lang and the Third Great King Baimian, General Dilong and Bai Yunxiao standing beside them were inwardly shaken to their cores.
As for General Dilong, he had failed to sense how formidable the opponent's aura truly was. Hearing the other party hurl such harsh insults at the three Great Kings caused a rush of blood to his head, leading him to meddle without thinking.
The result nearly cost him his life.
Fortunately, the Third Great King had shielded him.
Only now, upon learning from his own Great King's mouth that this Bai Lang had attained the realm of a Demon King—
The realm of a Demon King!
And it had taken merely thirty years!
General Dilong felt a shock and lingering fear within his heart that defied description.
As for Bai Yunxiao:
He knew that once his younger brother became a Demon King, his strength would undoubtedly be formidable.
However, having witnessed very few Demon Kings in action firsthand, he didn't know precisely how terrifying a Demon King could be.
Now he had witnessed it: with a mere casual strike, his younger brother had severely injured Dilong, the strongest late-stage Demon Commander under the Third Great King.
This truly filled him with astonishment.
"Then what is it you want now?"
Baimian looked at Lu Wufei coldly and said, "I can let Bai Yunxiao go with you. Moreover, those sworn-brother small demons of yours are all here—you should know by now that I haven't made things difficult for them. And all the lesser demons under Bai Yunxiao's command, you may take them all."
"Let this matter end here."
"How about it?"
"Hahahaha..."
Hearing Baimian's words, Lu Wufei burst into laughter once more, then rapidly soared high into the air. Looking down at Baimian, he said coldly, "Baimian, for a Demon King, you certainly utter such naive and shameless words."
"Your eldest brother nearly took my life that day, and now you tell me you want to call it even?"
"We are somewhat acquainted, which is why I've spoken so much with you!"
"If you can bring your eldest brother here right now to kneel and kowtow in apology to me, I might consider letting this matter slide. How about that?"
Baimian rapidly ascended into the sky as well, looking at Lu Wufei and saying, "That demand of yours goes too far."
Before his voice had even faded, Lu Wufei glanced back toward the rear. Catching sight of two streaks of light rushing across the distant horizon, he spoke in a cold voice, "I knew you were stalling for time. No matter; with this much time, dealing with you is quite enough!"
With that, Lu Wufei quickly sent a sound transmission to Bai Yunxiao down below.
Instantly, a golden staff materialized in his hand, and he lunged directly toward the dark-faced Baimian.
"Shameless boasting!"
Knowing that his two elder brothers were already on their way, Baimian sneered, summoned a triangular steel trident radiating a bone-chilling glare, and charged forward to meet him.
Lu Wufei leaped into the air, wielding the Golden Light Staff, and smashed it fiercely toward the oncoming Baimian.
"Bang!"
Staff and trident collided!
A sound like rolling thunder exploded instantly across the night sky.
Sparks erupted, and spiritual energy surged backward!
The violent shockwaves of spiritual energy rolled outward in all directions with the two demons at the center.
In the mid-air below, Bai Yunxiao and General Dilong, sensing the shockwave approaching, changed expressions and hurriedly flew out of the way.
No sooner had they cleared the path than they saw the shockwave strike the main peak of Langlang Mountain directly below.
"Bang, bang, bang—"
Row upon row of towering ancient trees were swept flat, sand and gravel flew wildly through the air, and even Bai Yunxiao's dwelling, the General's Cave, was instantly obliterated in that single blow.
The main peak of Langlang Mountain was ravaged, sending dust billowing dozens of feet into the air.
The sight left Bai Yunxiao and General Dilong inwardly horrified.
High up in the sky:
Following a purely physical collision of sheer strength, Baimian, wielding his trident, was forced back dozens of steps in mid-air before he managed to steady himself. He cast an unsightly expression toward Lu Wufei opposite him.
"Is that the extent of your capabilities?"
Lu Wufei twirled the staff in a flourish, sneering at the opposite Baimian, "Then I'm afraid you won't live long enough for your two elder brothers to arrive!"
With those words, Lu Wufei took a step forward, and his figure instantly vanished into thin air.
Baimian's expression shifted slightly. Guarding himself with utmost vigilance, layers of blood-red radiance flickered across his body.
Right at that moment, a streak of azure light materialized out of thin air, shooting straight toward Baimian's face.
Lu Wufei's figure immediately appeared directly behind Baimian, wielding the dazzling Golden Light Staff to smash fiercely toward the back of Baimian's head.
"Bang! Bang..."
Two crisp sounds rang out in rapid succession.
The instant Baimian wielded his trident to deflect the incoming azure light, a staff radiating blinding golden light descended upon the back of his head with the force of a myriad jun.
Red light flared brilliantly over Baimian's body as the sound of cracking porcelain shattered the air.
Baimian's face turned ashen with shock. Without the slightest hesitation, he whipped his trident backward to thrust behind him.
The trident pierced the air with a piercing whine, only to stab at empty air.
Lu Wufei's figure vanished once more the moment Baimian turned around.
The next second, Lu Wufei reappeared behind Baimian, wielding the Golden Light Staff and bringing it down in another overhead smash.
This time, Baimian anticipated Lu Wufei's sneak attack. As his body reeled backward from the force, he hurled his triangular steel trident straight ahead.
"Clang!"
Lu Wufei batted the trident aside with a single swing of his staff.
At that exact moment, Baimian arrived head-on, thrusting forward with a long spear!
Faced with this counter-ambush, Lu Wufei felt no alarm; instead, he smiled at Baimian. Sidestepping the spear with a fluid motion, he parted his lips.
"Roar—!"
A soundless fury burst forth in a roar.
Seeing the smiling Bai Lang, Baimian was struck by sudden panic, though his reflexes were already too late.
In an instant, Baimian felt an agonizing, piercing pain inside his sea of consciousness. Accompanying the pain—which felt as though it reached the marrow of his bones—were terror, dread, and trembling; his divine soul cowered in fear of everything around him.
With a look of acute agony and a trembling frame, Baimian instinctively retreated, while bursts of multicolored radiance once again flickered into existence across his body.
Observing the Third Great King taking the full brunt of his attack, Lu Wufei did not seize the moment to press the offensive. Instead, he raised a foot, planted it heavily against Baimian's chest, and used the rebound force to launch himself high into the sky. Looking down at the agonizingly retreating Third Great King, he swept his sleeve.
In an instant, heaven and earth darkened.
Sands flew, and stones rolled.
A violent, driverless gale conjured itself from nothingness, roaring as it swept up everything in this domain.
Down below in the distance, Bai Yunxiao and General Dilong—who had each sought shelter atop the mountain forests to watch the clash between the two Demon Kings—wore expressions of utter shock as they witnessed the terrifying gale materialize out of thin air from all directions.
Without a moment's hesitation in the face of the most violent gale they had ever witnessed in their lives, both demons turned tail and fled.
Faced with the ubiquitous gale, Bai Yunxiao decisively plunged downward into the mountain forest below.
Within a breath or two, Bai Yunxiao smashed through the resistance, successfully diving into the rocky earth and vanishing from sight.
General Dilong chose to turn and flee backward.
However, having already been severely injured by Lu Wufei's casual strike earlier, he barely made it a hundred paces before he was swept into the eye of the converging, swelling gale and vanished completely.
At the very center of the high heavens:
Faced with the head-on, all-encompassing gale sweeping in from every direction of the heavens and earth, Baimian—whose divine soul was already wounded—could not hold out any longer than his subordinate General Dilong.
Swept up and coerced by the raging winds, he was swallowed wholesale into that sky-covering, vast sleeve hanging in the sky.
A satisfied look crossed Lu Wufei's face as he flicked his long sleeve and turned to look behind him.
Right at that moment, the two streaks of light finally arrived.
Transforming into an old man in azure robes and a middle-aged figure in yellow robes, they manifested high in the distant sky.
