Chapter 123: The Final Trap of Future Technology
The other two miniature worlds were clearly not going to be settled anytime soon, and Ou Xiaolu had no intention of lingering in the valley. He glanced at the bear still sprawled beside the pool, staring at the sun-coral egg, and prepared to leave.
But after taking only two steps, Ou Xiaolu hesitated. He pulled out the item he had just acquired—the Toy Doll—and held it out before the bear.
The bear had been lying beside the pool, watching the egg and waiting for it to hatch. Even when Ou Xiaolu and the others had come over to fool around the day before, the bear had merely eaten a little and had not left its place by so much as a step.
At first, the bear seemed surprised when Ou Xiaolu brought over a doll. But the more it looked at the doll, the more it liked it. It gave Ou Xiaolu a foolish grin, placed the doll on top of its head, and went back to lying there.
Seeing how clever the bear was, Ou Xiaolu laughed as well. Aro’s underling was quite an interesting creature. Even if it could not be of any help in other matters, it would make a fine pet.
Thinking this, Ou Xiaolu left the valley and glanced up at the sky. It was already afternoon. Recalling his bold declaration that morning that he absolutely would not leave Newtown, he could not help giving an embarrassed laugh.
Just as Ou Xiaolu was about to use Purple-Thunder Sky Escape to return, a car stopped in front of him.
At least this was not another extravagantly hand-built private luxury car. It was an ordinary luxury business van. As it came to a halt before Ou Xiaolu, the door opened, and Portcas stuck his head out.
“Mr. Ou, we’ve been looking for you for quite some time.”
Ou Xiaolu stared at him. “Looking for me? Why?”
“Do you remember the people who attacked me yesterday? The ones from Future Technology? I’ve found the one who escaped. He also has a companion, and my people are keeping him under surveillance. Would you like to come and take a look?”
As he spoke, Portcas kept glancing toward the headless werewolf corpse nailed up outside the valley.
“Don’t bother looking. If you’re asking about the werewolves, they’re all dead.” Ou Xiaolu immediately saw what he was thinking.
Portcas gave an awkward smile. “Sorry. The Blood Council has been dealing with one crisis after another lately. I was merely being cautious.”
You might as well admit that you’re scared, Ou Xiaolu thought. Aloud, however, he said politely, “Then let’s go take a look at the people from Future Technology. Why haven’t they left Newtown?”
“Our people may not have much fighting power, but following and monitoring an enemy is still within their abilities. As for Future Technology, well, with the little money they have, they’re hardly in a position to do whatever they please in Newtown.”
“All right. Let’s go now.”
Thinking of the harm Future Technology had caused him, Ou Xiaolu made his decision without hesitation. At the same time, he began calculating how he could raise his level more quickly, so that he could leave a duplicate beside his parents to protect them. Things were becoming far too dangerous.
Perhaps he should trick his parents into moving to Newtown by telling them he had found a girl he could marry?
While Ou Xiaolu’s thoughts wandered, the vehicle entered Newtown and arrived outside an apartment building in the lower district.
“More than eighty percent of the houses in the lower district were built by one of my subordinates, a junior councilor, so his connections here are excellent. As soon as I assigned the task, I received a response. See that apartment? The man whose hands you cut off is hiding inside. I’ve already had my people buy several buildings around here.
“The nearby residents have all gone out to work overtime. Even if we destroy the entire area, it won’t matter.”
“What, you want me to handle it?” Only then did Ou Xiaolu understand why Portcas had invited him, though something still felt strange.
He looked around. “Where’s the nearest police station?”
“Three blocks from here. From the moment they receive a report, it will take at least fifteen minutes for them to arrive.” Portcas spoke with certainty. Clearly, he had made all the necessary inquiries before coming.
Ou Xiaolu blinked and asked another question. “Could there be patrol officers nearby?”
“You can rest assured. Every police officer in the area has been lured away by my people.” Portcas sounded completely confident.
Ou Xiaolu gave Portcas one last look. A faint smile appeared on his face as he pushed open the door and prepared to get out.
At the very instant he opened the door, Ou Xiaolu suddenly asked, “Why don’t you build some hand-crafted cars yourself? These ordinary ones are so difficult to make.”
“Do you think I want to build cars like this? If I drive something too luxurious into a place like this, I’ll be robbed in no time.”
Ou Xiaolu nodded and stepped out. Portcas followed him, pointing toward the building. “Go up from here. The room is—”
Before Portcas could finish, Ou Xiaolu turned around and snorted. Two streaks of white light shot from his nostrils and severed Portcas’s head.
Poor Portcas had been concentrating so intently on Ou Xiaolu’s right hand, afraid that he might make some sudden move, that he never guarded against the flying swords fired from Ou Xiaolu’s nose. He was killed on the spot.
The moment Portcas’s head was blasted into the air by a spray of blood, the driver began screaming.
“It has nothing to do with me! I was only hired to drive!”
Ou Xiaolu ignored him. He glanced at the corpse on the ground, which was slowly changing into a woman’s body, then looked toward the nearby building and asked casually, “Is that all the trap you’ve prepared?”
The moment he finished speaking, sirens sounded nearby. Clearly, the claim made by the false Portcas—that the police had all been lured away—was a complete lie. They might even have called the police themselves.
Ou Xiaolu paid no attention to the sirens. He walked over to Portcas’s head and nudged it with his foot, turning it over. He discovered that it had already transformed into the head of an Asian woman.
“Another person from Future Technology? You thought of every detail. You even replaced the perfume women commonly use with men’s cologne. But you forgot the most important thing: you never learned anything about your enemy.”
As he spoke, Ou Xiaolu glanced once more at the room Portcas had indicated. He was puzzled. There was certainly a trap inside, so why had it not been activated now that the police had arrived? Could it be that it would not be triggered until he entered?
Several police cars had already arrived. The officers were ordinary patrolmen, though in the Lighthouse Nation of Amiligi even patrol officers carried guns. When they saw the corpse on the ground, they raised their weapons and aimed them at Ou Xiaolu.
Ou Xiaolu raised both hands high to show that he was unarmed, then shouted, “I was just passing by! That woman screamed that there was a bomb and ran out of that building. Then her head suddenly flew off!”
Boom!
The instant Ou Xiaolu finished speaking, the building he had pointed toward exploded. The entire structure was engulfed in flames, leaving nothing behind.
