Chapter 72: Impact (6/26)
Ou Xiaolu’s car soon left the city limits of Xinxian and entered the outskirts.
Truth be told, Ou Xiaolu hadn’t noticed any car tailing him. While he was in the car, he was completely absorbed in examining the various interfaces of the “Crossing Worlds Game” system, delving into all its functions.
It wasn’t until they neared the valley that Ou Xiaolu finally closed the interface and turned to glance at Aro.
“How’s it going?”
“All right. Booth has already made contact with the detective, and the other two queens have found places to stay.”
“That’s good. I hope they can gather together soon.”
“I think you’d better not hope for that,” Aro suddenly interjected.
“Why not?”
“You haven’t been keeping an eye on the changes in [World: The Broken Scepter]. I noticed that when the Red and White Queens found their lodgings, the world underwent some subtle tremors. That disturbance seemed targeted, specifically aimed at the two queens.”
Ou Xiaolu pondered this and understood. The identities projected into the world were not something one could use safely just by providing enough combat power; they also had to bear the corresponding consequences.
If you used an identity at the protagonist’s level, then all the troubles that would target the protagonist in the world would naturally be drawn toward those projections.
This time, just by increasing the combat power a bit, the world’s feedback was already so troublesome. Clearly, character background settings like these needed to be used with caution in the future.
Just then, Aro suddenly exclaimed, “Is that the sign you hung up? It looks really impressive.”
Ou Xiaolu looked up and saw that they were already close to the valley. The headless werewolf’s corpse still hung there; as vehicles passed by, the werewolf’s arms would sway, making for a rather terrifying sight. However, the sign swinging beside the werewolf’s hand gave the whole scene a touch of offbeat humor.
Ou Xiaolu suspected that anyone who saw the werewolf’s corpse wouldn’t even notice what was written on the sign.
Not long after they drove in, another car arrived—none other than the pair who had been tailing them.
As they passed, they too caught sight of the werewolf’s corpse. Possessing certain supernatural abilities, they certainly didn’t mistake it for a fake.
“Boss, that’s a werewolf corpse. Could this be the headquarters of the Holy Blood Council?”
“Looks like we’ve really found it. Call back and report that we’ve located the headquarters. We’re going in to retrieve what’s rightfully ours—I refuse to believe they’d dare keep our things from us.”
“Boss, should we ask the Big Boss to send backup? Just the two of us…”
“What do you mean ‘just the two of us’? It’s just me! Don’t worry, I know my own strength. The Holy Blood Council people are all obsessed with immortality; they have no real fighting power. Now that we’ve finally found their base, why wait for them to give us trouble? We should just take back our stuff now.”
The driver nodded emphatically, recalling all the trouble they’d faced since arriving in Xinxian. “You’re right, boss. If they find out we’ve located them, they’ll probably use their influence to have us expelled from Xinxian. Might as well grab our things now.”
“Exactly, that’s the spirit. When we get in, I’ll launch an attack and draw their attention. You sneak in and retrieve what we’re after. Leave the gold for now—the diary is our real priority.”
The two quickly discussed their plan. In the end, they decided not to drive into the valley but parked outside.
The underling would sneak in first and wait for the boss to create a diversion.
As for the boss, he strolled in at a leisurely pace, fully prepared for battle.
As he walked into the valley, the boss’s body began to change. At first, his skin turned silvery white, then his hair and eyes shifted from blond and blue to silver as well. Scales began to appear on his skin.
Once inside the valley, the boss let out a resounding shout, “I am a descendant of the Silver Dragon King! Hand over all the gold you stole from me!”
But in the next instant, the scene was extremely awkward. The boss realized there weren’t scores of people here as he’d imagined, nor was this any kind of research facility. There was nothing but an empty pasture and a few rabbits hopping about.
Ou Xiaolu, who had just parked, looked on in utter bemusement.
It was clear Ou Xiaolu hadn’t expected to encounter something like this either.
The two men stared at each other for a long while before Ou Xiaolu finally spoke. “Um, this is private property. No trespassing without permission.”
The boss gave an awkward laugh. Glancing around and seeing no one else nearby, a thought flashed through his mind.
Since he was already here, he might as well kill this guy, lest the trip be in vain.
With that, the boss threw a punch straight at Ou Xiaolu’s head, hoping to finish him off in one blow.
The punch was incredibly fast—Ou Xiaolu didn’t even have time to react.
Fortunately, as the fist landed, a swirl of purple mist appeared beside Ou Xiaolu.
This was the effect of the [Violet Veil Robe].
Thanks to the [Violet Veil Robe], Ou Xiaolu withstood the blow.
Now Ou Xiaolu was truly angry. He had always been the one to strike first, but this time he’d been ambushed.
He drew the longsword from his back and slashed at the boss.
With that blow, Ou Xiaolu felt as if he were striking solid steel. The scales on the boss’s body made it difficult for his sword to cut through.
But with that exchange, both realized the other’s defense was formidable.
They began to calculate how best to deal with each other.
Ou Xiaolu recovered first, intensifying the effect of the [Violet Veil Robe]. A thick purple mist enveloped his body.
He then thrust his sword directly at the boss’s eyes.
Seeing the purple mist grow denser around Ou Xiaolu, the boss began to regret choosing this opponent. His defense was formidable, but he knew all too well how weak his own attacks were.
With a roar, his hands transformed into claws, which he swung straight for Ou Xiaolu’s head.
He had just realized that Ou Xiaolu’s defense was a sort of flexible shield.
A direct attack could be blocked, but joint locks might get through.
So the boss decided to grab Ou Xiaolu’s head and twist it back at the neck.
Then the whole world would finally be quiet.
