Chapter 108: The Ghost Leviathan (Part I)

As soon as the words left his mouth, two octopus-like creatures suddenly appeared inside the building. They materialized out of thin air, as if teleporting instantaneously from somewhere outside.

Observing these creatures' teleportation ability, Qin Fei was almost certain that these monsters were the “Voidwalkers” from the game. The Voidwalkers were engineered by the alien intelligence known as the “Vanguards,” who had come to this planet. Their purpose was to hunt down beings infected by the Kara virus, thereby halting and slowing its spread across the world.

Since Qin Fei’s body had been enhanced and strengthened by the Kara virus, he was undoubtedly seen by the Voidwalkers as a mutated carrier of the infection. Given his strength, killing these creatures was nearly impossible.

In the game, once players crafted the stasis gun—a weapon capable of freezing time—they could easily defeat even the Ghost and Leviathan Reaper. Yet the Voidwalkers remained untouchable.

These creatures not only ignored the stasis gun’s immobilizing effect but also instantly teleported to another location the moment they were attacked. Ordinary strikes simply couldn’t land on them.

If Qin Fei continued to engage with the Voidwalkers, he would only waste the resources in his backpack needlessly. Fortunately, the Voidwalkers weren’t overly aggressive; once you left their patrol range, they wouldn’t pursue further.

Therefore, there was no reason for Qin Fei to linger. Utilizing the high-speed flight function of his Tech Armor, he swiftly left the building.

After departing the structure on the hillside, Qin Fei explored other parts of the island. The island was dotted with numerous natural caves. Inside these caves, he found abundant deposits of gold, silver, diamonds, and lithium—four rare minerals. Even if they couldn’t be used as crafting materials, their intrinsic value was immense.

Qin Fei gathered all these metals into his backpack.

Deeper within one cave, he discovered a uniquely shaped triangular building. Judging by the style and materials, it was likely constructed by the same Vanguards. At the three corners of the triangle rested three green, cube-like objects resembling the ion crystals the Vanguards had created in the game.

Qin Fei didn’t rush to remove them. To avoid any potential danger, he scanned the green cubes with his scanner.

A valuable find.

Qin Fei recalled that ion batteries made from these crystals each contained energy comparable to a small nuclear reactor. He carefully stowed the crystals in his backpack.

Emerging from the island’s caves, Qin Fei activated his Tech Helmet and submerged once more into the surrounding waters. The Ghost Leviathans that had been lingering nearby were nowhere to be seen, apparently having left temporarily.

The Ghost Leviathans usually roamed vast areas and needed to feed to replenish energy, so they couldn’t stay in one place indefinitely.

Gazing at the wreckage of the Healer spacecraft underwater, Qin Fei felt tempted. Now would be the perfect opportunity to explore inside for salvage.

Of course, entering the Healer carried risks. Those two Ghost Leviathans could return at any moment. But the risk was worth taking.

The Tech Helmet’s maximum scanning range was a 300-meter radius centered on himself. After scanning, Qin Fei confirmed that no Ghost Leviathans were within this range—meaning their distance from him was at least 300 meters.

Since it took the Leviathans one to two minutes to swim from 300 meters away to this location, Qin Fei had roughly two minutes to scavenge inside the Healer.

Once this time elapsed, no matter what he found, he had to exit immediately.

Wasting no time, Qin Fei donned his Tech Armor and plunged into the interior of the Healer spacecraft.

On the walls inside, the word “Warehouse” was clearly marked. This section of the ship was evidently designated for storing cargo.

At the entrance lay two PAD data modules. Qin Fei didn’t pause to examine them; he grabbed both and stowed them in his backpack.

Further inside, he found a large crate containing a pair of mechanical arms, weighing over ten kilograms. They resembled the arm assemblies from the Sea Shrimp vessel.

Without time to inspect further, Qin Fei quickly hoisted the mechanical arms and stored them in his backpack.

Nearby, he spotted a signal receiver and two items shaped like guns. A quick glance revealed that these were a Laser Cutter and a Stasis Gun.

Two minutes passed quickly.

Though the warehouse space was vast, the area Qin Fei scavenged was less than a quarter of its total. Considering the looming threat of the Ghost Leviathans’ return, he couldn’t afford to linger.

Survival outweighed equipment.

He prepared to exit the warehouse.

Unfortunately, just then, a chilling scream echoed outside the Healer—an eerie sound emitted only by Ghost Leviathans.

So soon???

Panic stirred within Qin Fei. He had only scavenged for two minutes and was already planning to leave, yet the Ghost Leviathans had returned.

Their cries were haunting, evoking a primal fear etched deep within the DNA of all life.

They seemed to have detected Qin Fei hiding inside the Healer, endlessly prowling through the ship’s hull in search of him.

If Qin Fei had been in open water, he would have surfaced immediately upon detecting them. But trapped inside the cramped warehouse, his options were limited.

Though his Tech Armor moved swiftly underwater, it was no match for the speed of the Ghost Leviathans.

Trying to outrun them now was hopeless.

It seemed he had no choice but to confront them head-on...
