Chapter 113: The Sea Dragon Leviathan

Not long after Qin Fei killed the Wave Rider, the mutated Ghost Leviathan from the cave finally caught up with him.

Qin Fei ordered his Tusoteuthis to charge forward and seize the Ghost Leviathan with its tentacles.

But the mutated Ghost Leviathan was roughly two or three times larger than the Wave Rider, putting it on par with the Tusoteuthis.

Combined with the enhancement granted by its mutation, it was far beyond what the Tusoteuthis could deal with easily.

The moment the mutated Ghost Leviathan was caught, it twisted its body and instead wrapped itself around the Tusoteuthis.

The Tusoteuthis bit open a wound in the leviathan’s body and began absorbing its blood with its tentacles.

At the same time, however, under the Ghost Leviathan’s relentless assault, the Tusoteuthis was being bitten until its body was covered in wounds.

Watching the battle between the two behemoths, Qin Fei could do little besides fire occasional shots with his Tek Rifle.

Judging from the condition of the two creatures, though, Qin Fei estimated that his Tusoteuthis would not last much longer before being killed by the leviathan.

If he did not flee now, he might soon lose his chance.

The squid could die for all he cared. His own life was more important.

Qin Fei turned around, swiftly climbed into the Prawn Suit, and fled toward the deeper reaches of the Lost River.

In terms of speed, the Prawn Suit Qin Fei was piloting certainly could not outrun the mutated Ghost Leviathan.

If he tried to escape through the cave entrance leading outside the Lost River, the mutated Ghost Leviathan would catch him before long.

When that happened, he would almost certainly die.

The only way to survive was to venture deeper into the Lost River, find the entrance to the Lava Zone, and hide there.

The reason the mutated Ghost Leviathan could move through such narrow caves was mainly because it possessed the ability to pass through walls.

But that ability was useless in the Lava Zone.

After all, a Ghost Leviathan could not travel through molten rock.

If it entered the Lava Zone, the slightest misstep could leave it scalded to death by the lava.

The Lava Zone was surrounded almost entirely by magma. Unless a creature had evolved there, it could not adapt to the environment.

Qin Fei fled along the Lost River, racing toward the depths of the cave.

After about ten minutes, he reached a cavern containing a strange plant. Its shape closely resembled that of a tree.

Among its branches hung several dozen spheres radiating a pale blue light.

The moment Qin Fei saw the tree-like plant, he knew that he had reached the vicinity of the entrance to the Lava Zone—the Tree of Life.

Based on his knowledge of the game, the dozens of pale blue spheres growing on the Tree of Life were Ghost Leviathan eggs.

The eggs were not particularly large, each one roughly half the size of a basketball.

More importantly, they were very light.

Since they did not take up much carrying capacity, Qin Fei simply dug every egg out of the tree and stuffed them into his pack.

Just as he finished removing the eggs, the mutated Ghost Leviathan caught up with him.

Judging by the situation, the leviathan had completely killed his Tusoteuthis.

Not far from the Tree of Life was a deep pit roughly eight square meters in area.

Qin Fei piloted the Prawn Suit to the edge of the pit and glanced downward. The depths were pitch-black, though he could faintly make out traces of red light.

Even sitting inside the mech, Qin Fei could already feel waves of heat rising from below.

The pit was likely filled with countless streams of lava.

The instant the mutated Ghost Leviathan lunged toward him, Qin Fei drove the Prawn Suit straight into the pit.

The mutated Ghost Leviathan behind him swam to the edge of the pit, then stopped nearby, no longer daring to give chase.

With its enormous body, forty or fifty meters in length, it would inevitably come into contact with the surrounding magma if it entered the Lava Zone.

Although mutation had greatly strengthened the Ghost Leviathan’s body, direct contact with lava would still burn it.

After shaking off the Ghost Leviathan, Qin Fei operated the Prawn Suit and began searching the Lava Zone for an exit.

He definitely could not return through the entrance he had used before.

The mutated Ghost Leviathan would not be leaving that area anytime soon.

Qin Fei had to escape through another route.

He remembered that there should be two entrances connecting the Lava Zone deep beneath the sea to the Lost River.

As long as he could find the second entrance, he would be able to escape directly through it.

Many fish also lived in the Lava Zone.

But unless he encountered a creature with the combat power of a leviathan, ordinary life-forms could not even break through the Prawn Suit’s defenses.

The terrain of the Lava Zone was not particularly complicated, but it was extremely dark—so dark that there was practically no light at all.

Even after Qin Fei activated the night-vision function of his Tek Helmet, he could see only a few dozen meters ahead and was unable to make out anything farther away.

As a result, Qin Fei could only drive the Prawn Suit aimlessly through the Lava Zone like a headless fly.

After traveling forward for roughly ten minutes, Qin Fei suddenly heard a strange roar in the distance.

It sounded like an air-raid siren and was extraordinarily loud.

The moment he heard that tremendous cry, Qin Fei knew it had to belong to something enormous.

It was probably a Sea Dragon Leviathan living in the Lava Zone.

Although Qin Fei had not seen the creature, he could think of no other giant life-form besides the Sea Dragon Leviathan capable of surviving in the Lava Zone.

Under normal circumstances, Sea Dragon Leviathans fed on the minerals of the Lava Zone.

Not only that, but nearly one-third of their bodies consisted of various ores and other inorganic substances.

That was the main reason they could survive in the Lava Zone.

Of course, feeding on minerals did not mean they were harmless.

In fact, Sea Dragon Leviathans were extremely dangerous. In addition to consuming ore, they would attack every living creature within their line of sight and turn those creatures into food.

Thus, the instant Qin Fei heard the roar, he changed direction and fled away from it.

At that moment, a second Sea Dragon Leviathan roared somewhere ahead of him.

There were two Sea Dragon Leviathans in the Lava Zone.

More importantly, their positions seemed to place them directly in front of and behind Qin Fei, trapping him completely.
