Xu Ziyu received a phone call, then handed Guan Yueyue straight over to Shen Zhi and hurried away, as though something extremely urgent had come up.

“Come with me,” Shen Zhi said to Guan Yueyue.

Guan Yueyue followed him up the stairs to his bedroom.

She stood at the doorway, never daring to enter.

Shen Zhi sat down in front of his computer. When he glanced back and saw her still standing at the door, he said, “Come in.”

Guan Yueyue hesitated for a moment, but eventually stepped inside and stood beside him.

Moving the mouse, Shen Zhi navigated through a complicated, hidden path and opened a folder.

“Come sit here.” Shen Zhi glanced at her.

Guan Yueyue was puzzled. Sit where?

On your lap?

Just as the thought crossed her mind, Shen Zhi stood up and vacated the seat.

Guan Yueyue sat down.

Bending over, Shen Zhi continued opening the densely packed folders. “These are all the works I’ve created over the past few years. You can take a look first.”

They were the professor’s works. Guan Yueyue felt a little excited.

“You look through them. I’m going to make a phone call.” Shen Zhi spoke close to her ear.

Guan Yueyue nodded.

After Shen Zhi left, Guan Yueyue eagerly clicked open the files.

The first image was of a wedding gown brimming with artistic design. The moment Guan Yueyue saw it, she was captivated.

Standing on the balcony, Shen Zhi dialed a number.

“Officer Chen, this is Shen Zhi.”

A voice came from the other end. “Mr. Shen? What can I do for you?”

Leaning halfway against the wall, Shen Zhi said, “I wanted to ask how the investigation into Shang Meixiang’s case is going.”

“Orders came from above. Close it as soon as possible.”

Shen Zhi frowned. “Close it? So soon? How was the case concluded?”

“How else could it be concluded? This sort of rape by petty thugs happens every year in Haicheng. It’s nothing unusual. Most of the time, it’s because the girls don’t know how to conduct themselves. Shang Meixiang’s case is probably much the same.”

“Understood. Thank you.” Shen Zhi hung up.

Guan Yueyue became more and more absorbed in what she was viewing. So much so that she failed to notice Shen Zhi standing behind her for quite some time.

“Your eyes are tired. Take a break.”

His sudden voice startled Guan Yueyue. Ever since being reborn and sleeping with Shen Zhi, she no longer feared him. Not only was she unafraid of him now, but she often found herself inexplicably wanting to…

Guan Yueyue almost wanted to slap herself again.

Looking at her flushed little face, Shen Zhi suddenly felt his mouth go dry. He instinctively tugged at his collar. “Third Miss, there’s something I’d like to ask you.”

Guan Yueyue’s face grew warm. “Go ahead.”

Worried that keeping her head raised to look at him would make her neck uncomfortable, Shen Zhi glanced at the sofa nearby. “Let’s sit down and talk.”

Guan Yueyue and Shen Zhi sat down, leaving a distance of one arm between them.

Shen Zhi said, “You already knew Ming Ziluo, didn’t you? You knew about her long ago—you knew her, and you understood her. My guess is correct, isn’t it?”

Guan Yueyue was completely stunned by his question.

“The last time you brought Yuan Wu to me for treatment, I received a phone call from Ming Ziluo. I noticed that your expression looked awful at the time, but I didn’t think much of it then. Now that I think about it, you probably knew her long ago.”

Guan Yueyue suddenly felt a chill run through her. Shen Zhi was far too perceptive.

“So…” Shen Zhi leaned closer to her. “The reason you were so afraid of me was because of Ming Ziluo. You were afraid that if she found out about our relationship, she would harm you. That’s why you used that method to force me to leave you. Isn’t that right?”

Guan Yueyue was utterly dumbfounded.

What a beautiful misunderstanding.
