Chapter 4: Letting Go
Guan Yueyue fled with incredible speed. By the time Shen Zhi chased after her, she had already vanished from sight.
He took out his phone, pulled up her contact, and dialed.
It rang once before she hung up.
He tried again, but the result was the same.
A moment later, he opened WeChat and sent her a message.
"Young Master."
A voice called out from behind him. Shen Zhi put away his phone and turned to see a middle-aged man dressed in a perfectly tailored silver suit, his hair combed with meticulous precision.
"Young Master, my name is Qin Wu. I am the butler for the Xu family; everyone calls me Uncle Qin." As he spoke, he pulled out a set of keys and held them out to Shen Zhi. "These are for your new car and a villa in the New Pavilion district. Sir instructed me to hand them to you."
Shen Zhi: "No need."
Qin Wu: "Young Master, this is what you are entitled to."
Shen Zhi: "I have my own."
Qin Wu: "..."
...
Inside the car.
Guan Yueyue stared blankly at a message.
Until Yuan Wu leaned over and caught a glimpse of the text, her eyes widening. "Third Young Miss, this is..."
Guan Yueyue quickly tucked her phone away. "Just something sent by a boring person."
"But Third Young Miss, you're blushing." Ever since Yuan Wu realized that Guan Yueyue had undergone a change in temperament, she had become much bolder.
Guan Yueyue immediately composed herself, reminding herself to stay far away from that dangerous man.
She picked up her phone, opened WeChat again, and deleted the message.
Yet, the content remained etched in her mind, refusing to fade.
[Third Young Miss, my lips are still sore from where you bit me.]
Upon returning home, Guan Yueyue noticed that everyone in the house was looking at her as if they had seen a ghost.
"What is it?" She turned her gaze toward her father, Guan Huaiming.
In her past life, she remembered that she had literally angered her father to his death.
Sheng Lan, always quick to read the room, chimed in, "Yueyue, you rarely come home. Your sudden return has made your father so happy. Huaiming, look at our Yueyue; she’s grown up and become so sensible, knowing to come back to see us. You won't have to worry yourself blind anymore."
Guan Yueyue: "..."
Guan Huaiming reached out toward her. "Come here, let Dad get a good look at you."
Guan Yueyue sat beside him. "Dad, I’m sorry. I realize now how ridiculous I used to be—smoking, drinking, gambling, getting into fights, sleeping with male models..."
With each item Guan Yueyue listed, Guan Huaiming’s face twitched. Once she finished, he patted her arm. "It’s good that you know you were wrong. From now on..."
"From now on, I will definitely lead a proper life." Guan Yueyue raised three fingers, shifting her gaze to Sheng Lan. "I, Guan Yueyue, swear to heaven: if I ever smoke, drink, gamble, or sleep with male models again, then... let Mom drop dead."
Sheng Lan’s face turned pale with fright.
"You child, what kind of nonsense are you spouting?" Guan Huaiming swatted her hand away.
Guan Yueyue immediately wore a bright smile. "This time it was Mom; if I offend again, I'll trade places. I'll be the one to drop dead."
"You!"
Sheng Lan quickly hurried over to comfort Guan Huaiming. "Why are you getting angry? Can’t you tell? Yueyue is just joking with you. I’m her mother, after all; how could she possibly let me die? Right, Yueyue?"
"Of course, I love Mom the most," Guan Yueyue said through gritted teeth.
...
After returning to her room, Guan Yueyue reviewed everything that had happened that day.
What she couldn't understand most of all was why Shen Zhi was Xu Zewen's son and Xu Ziyu's brother.
It seemed that to avoid Shen Zhi, she would have to give up on her revenge against Xu Ziyu.
Forget it. Letting him go meant letting herself go, too.
