Chapter 7: Delusional

Suburb, the Shen residence.
Mrs. Shen: “Have you acknowledged him as your father?”
Shen Zhi poured himself a glass of water, placed it on the coffee table, gave a short hum, and settled onto the sofa.
Mrs. Shen sat down beside him. “What did he say?”
Shen Zhi looked at his mother. “He was very happy, very excited.”
Mrs. Shen: “This time, he should be satisfied.”
Shen Zhi: “Mom, I acknowledged him as you asked. Isn’t it time you explained what’s really going on? Am I really his son?”
Mrs. Shen: “You must be hungry. I’ll go make you some food.”
Shen Zhi quickly grabbed her hand. “No, I’m not hungry. Tell me—who is my real father?”
Mrs. Shen sighed helplessly. “Xu Zewen is your biological father. I married your dad while carrying you.”
Shen Zhi: “Does Dad know about this?”
Mrs. Shen nodded.
Back then, Xu Zewen didn’t know she was pregnant and actually handed her over to Shen Tangyu himself.
In a fit of spite, she married Shen Tangyu directly.
Coincidentally, Shen Tangyu liked her, so he didn’t mind that she was pregnant and willingly accepted the child.
But unexpectedly, Xu Zewen eventually found out about the child.
That despicable, shameless man, Xu Zewen, repeatedly threatened Shen Tangyu to force me to acknowledge him as my father. I had no choice but to comply.

Shen Zhi released his mother’s hand, sneering, “You were already pregnant, and Dad still agreed to marry you?”
Mrs. Shen was instantly displeased. “What are you talking about, child? Your father is not that shallow. He is well-educated...”
“Enough, Mom. You never stop talking when it comes to Dad.” Shen Zhi sat upright. “It has nothing to do with education. Some people are just good at hiding things and have the patience for it.”
“Your father is not that kind of person. You’re trying to drive a wedge between us.”
“Better to be cautious in everything.”
Shen Zhi said this because he had seen his father several times with other women—touching, flirty, and ambiguous.
—
Night fell, with a light rain.
Shen Zhi stood under an umbrella before an iron gate.
Inside stood a villa.
He looked up.
No light shone from within.
Just as he was about to leave, the lights came on in a room on the second floor.
Guan Yueyue went to the bathroom, quickly used it, and upon returning, noticed her phone vibrating nonstop.
She quickly grabbed it and glanced at the screen.
It was a call from Shen Zhi.
Without thinking, she hung up.

But she overlooked one thing.
Shen Zhi had a key to her private villa.
Lying half-asleep in bed, Guan Yueyue suddenly felt someone kiss her lips.
She snapped her eyes wide open and, overcome by fear, pushed the man off her.
Though he was incredibly handsome, it couldn’t overcome the terror inside her.
“Shen Zhi, you broke into my home... I’m calling the police... I...” Guan Yueyue stammered in fright.
Shen Zhi quietly watched her, his eyes full of complexity.
Guan Yueyue shrank into a corner, trembling as she pointed at him. “Don’t come closer. If you do, I’ll kill you.”
“Kill me?” Shen Zhi chuckled, then calmly straightened his disheveled clothes. “Miss Third, do you want to see a doctor? One who specializes in mental health?”
“I—I’m just...” Shen Zhi actually suspected she was mentally ill.
Shen Zhi: “Want me to recommend one for you?”
At that moment, Guan Yueyue’s phone vibrated again.
Shen Zhi stood up, took the phone, and looked at the screen, which displayed the name “Xu Ziyu.”
