Chapter 022: Seventh Squad - 2
Bai Yuxi was momentarily speechless. This fellow had invaded his biofield without a word; if he hadn’t reacted, that would have been truly strange.
“Don’t be nervous! Calm yourself and feel the ‘repulsion’ produced when our bio-magnetic fields make contact…”
“Can you sense the presence of your own strong bio-magnetic field? Good! Now try to pull this biofield back…”
“Try to retract it as close to your body as possible. This ability should be like breathing, an instinct for the awakened…”
Willy, enthusiastic and meticulous, explained patiently. Bai Yuxi sensed no ill will from him, so he focused on perceiving the intangible fluctuations of the magnetic field.
With Willy’s guidance, he seemed to “see” a layer, like rippling water, of magnetic energy encircling his body.
Following the direction of Willy’s “push,” Bai Yuxi slowly drew his biofield back, containing it at the surface of his skin and preventing it from dispersing outward.
Just as Willy said, controlling this strong bio-magnetic field seemed to have become instinctive at the very moment of his awakening.
Although keeping the biofield so tightly constrained made Bai Yuxi feel as if every muscle in his body was taut and tense, fearful that any relaxation might cause the energy to spill out again, he believed that once he grew accustomed to this sensation, he would be able to control it freely.
“Your comprehension is remarkable!”
Seeing Bai Yuxi master the technique almost instantly, Willy was genuinely surprised. “You got it so quickly?”
Bai Yuxi held his breath, not daring to speak, for fear that any lapse would undo his efforts. He could only nod.
“No need to be so tense. You’ll get used to it! Next, you need to suppress your superactive readings!”
“The external readings of your superactivity are based on the number of ‘multidimensional, ultra-high activity bioenergy’ particles leaking from your body.”
“So, just like the bio-magnetic field, as long as you suppress the emission of your superactivity, you can cause external detectors to misread—or even fail to detect you at all.”
The young man was clearly eager to teach. Seeing Bai Yuxi grasp his instructions so swiftly, he grew more enthusiastic, demonstrating, “It’s like holding your breath when diving underwater…”
But this time, Bai Yuxi couldn’t master the control as easily as he had with the biofield.
As a newly awakened, the amount of superactivity he possessed already far exceeded his capacity for control.
Thus, although he understood the method, he found that only by holding his breath could he prevent his superactivity from leaking out. The moment he inhaled, the energy would surge outward uncontrollably. He couldn’t exactly suffocate himself, could he?
“…Well, it’s alright!”
“You don’t actually need to suppress your superactivity completely!”
“After all, when suppressing superactivity, it’s very difficult for us overlimit warriors to fight.”
“This ability is just for stealth and concealment, used when necessary.”
Willy scratched his short, curly hair. “So you only need to reduce the emission to a certain level, lowering the chance of being detected by others.”
Unlike those who, after awakening, experienced a slow accumulation of superactivity and gradually grew into their powers over time, Bai Yuxi had to control over half a million degrees of superactivity in a short period—a task far from easy.
His muscles taut, Bai Yuxi breathed with utmost care.
Though controlling the bio-magnetic field and superactivity had nothing to do with muscle tension or breathing, he found himself linking them together, as if under hypnosis, using these external cues to aid his control.
This made Willy, not far from Bai Yuxi, feel the tides of magnetic energy and superactivity swelling and ebbing like the sea, expanding and contracting, never settling.
Bai Yuxi’s superactivity, at over half a million degrees, was overwhelming for Willy, who was accustomed to sensing others’ energy levels to judge their threat. Willy’s own combat level was only Grade 3, with about 1600 degrees of superactivity—hundreds of times less than Bai Yuxi’s. His wrist-mounted detector beeped frantically, alarms sounding in a chorus.
After much effort, Bai Yuxi managed to suppress his superactivity to about fifty thousand degrees.
The only flaw was that, when nervous or relaxed, his readings fluctuated wildly between five thousand and fifty thousand, which equated to a Grade 3 to Grade 5 overlimit warrior.
“Well, looks like this is the best you can do for now!”
Seeing Bai Yuxi’s energy stabilizing, Willy nodded with satisfaction. “Once you get used to this state, you’ll be able to go into ‘radar silent’ stealth mode, just like me!”
Bai Yuxi hadn’t yet had a chance to ask what “radar silence” and “stealth mode” meant, when the slower members of Firebird Squad Seven finally caught up.
“Hey~!”
Maya, carried on the back of a burly, bald youth, saw Bai Yuxi standing beside Willy. She immediately raised her arm to greet him, but as soon as she noticed Bai Yuxi’s gear, her voice abruptly halted.
The other members of Squad Seven also slowed down, wary.
Only when they saw Willy standing there nonchalantly, showing no signs of hostility toward Bai Yuxi, did they cautiously approach, filled with curiosity.
“Uh… hello?”
The squad’s leader, a girl with long, straight black hair, greeted Bai Yuxi with caution, casting a questioning glance at Maya.
“Ha!”
“It’s him!”
“I recognize his jaw!”
After staring at Bai Yuxi for a while, Maya suddenly cheered, jumping down from the bald youth’s back and limping over to Bai Yuxi.
“Hey! Why did you run so slowly just now?”
The blonde girl patted his shoulder, complaining, “I told you to follow me, but when I got back to the base and turned around, you were gone!”
The squad members broke out in a collective sweat—this foreign girl… was a bit scatterbrained, wasn’t she?
After all, the man before them, clad in combat gear, had a biofield and superactivity so powerful that he was a high-level overlimit warrior beyond their range of perception.
