Chapter 100: Privileged Treatment
"Taking on LDH’s extreme missions is not only to gain the protection of the Department of Extreme Management, but also to enhance and strengthen our own survival abilities."
Xia Youyou scoffed, “But aside from that, before we are extraordinary individuals, we’re first and foremost ordinary students! Do you think that just because you’ve become an Extreme Warrior, you can detach yourself from society?”
“Now that you mention it, I think I skipped several classes yesterday…”
Bai Yuxi broke out in a cold sweat. He had thought that entering the world of the extraordinary meant severing ties with his previous, normal life.
“It’s alright. A university life without skipping classes is incomplete!”
“And besides, do you know what Su Xiaoke does as a logistics officer?”
Xia Youyou stood on tiptoe, patting Bai Yuxi’s shoulder with an air of seniority. “These trivial matters of daily life have already been arranged for you!”
“Because of our special status, our daily lives naturally revolve around the extraordinary world, with ordinary social life as a supplement. And due to the unpredictability of extraordinary affairs, LDH grants us a considerable degree of freedom and privilege.”
“The LDH Department of Extreme Management is an organization that stands above secular society, with authority beyond your imagination. Even some government departments, military, and police agencies must serve it. As such, it has a highly comprehensive post-mission support system.”
Luo Fei explained with a smile, “For example, daily leave requests or switching departments—Xiaoke arranges all of it for us through the LDH logistics system. This is considered a special benefit for those under the Department of Extreme Management.”
Bai Yuxi was amazed. “So that means we’re members of a privileged ‘relevant department’?”
“It’s not as exaggerated as you think.”
“It’s just that we extraordinary individuals are granted certain conveniences.”
“We are not bound by secular rules in life or missions.”
“Otherwise, if extraordinary individuals can’t even guarantee their own livelihoods, how could they be expected to submit to management?”
“To prevent extraordinary individuals from abusing their abilities for crime in secular society…”
Luo Fei laughed, “A measure of special care becomes inevitable. It’s a common method for the authorities to appease extraordinary individuals…”
So that was the reason for those special documents Luo Fei and the others had shown him before, stamped with the seal of the ‘Special Security Bureau, National Security Department’.
Not only could they use any public facilities for free, but they had priority access to all kinds of transportation, entry to any place not specially restricted, access to non-top-secret information, and the ability to purchase all standard equipment and gear (including contraband and military supplies).
They could even, to some extent, request cooperation from local police and military agencies in their mission operations, and had certain immunity from criminal liability!
“This really is the treatment of a privileged class!”
The explanation left Bai Yuxi in awe. “Doesn’t the government worry that some extraordinary individuals might use this status for wrongdoing or to amass wealth?”
“Of course there’s oversight and certain restrictions!”
“But no extraordinary individual would use this status to make money.”
“Worldly wealth holds little allure for extraordinary individuals, especially those with high-level authority as Extreme Warriors.”
“If you really wanted, you could convert your accumulated base honors and battle merit points in LDH into money to splurge.”
Luo Fei and the others gave Bai Yuxi a curious look. “Or you could take the X-Crystals you have and sell them on the black market in the settlements—even a single F1-grade E-Crystal could fetch no less than ten thousand yuan in cash.”
Bai Yuxi was stunned. He recalled they’d said earlier that the black gold wood could yield over 12,000 F1-grade E-Crystals, right?
Wouldn’t that make him a billionaire?
And in the Iron Ting Village barrier, he’d used a level-6 M-Crystal to kill that Abyssal Thunder Toad.
Based on the black market value of M-Crystals in the extraordinary world, without considering exchange premiums, a level-6 M-Crystal was equivalent to 10,240 F1-grade E-Crystals…
“You’re pained over that level-6 M-Crystal, aren’t you?”
“Let it go. For us Extreme Warriors, who walk the line between life and death every day, resources—no matter how precious—can’t compare to our own lives!”
Drumstick seemed to see through Bai Yuxi’s mood, sympathetically patting his shoulder. “Resources can always be earned back. Preserving your life is worth more than anything!”
“That’s right! Generally speaking, no one spends X-Crystals for money.”
“Except for a few prodigals, those with resources usually use them to boost their own strength.”
Jason also comforted Bai Yuxi, “Only if you stay alive can you enjoy more privileges!”
“With the abilities of extraordinary individuals, getting money from the secular world is the easiest thing ever.”
“Take this special super-active serum, for example. Its effects are far superior to any nutritional or health supplement!”
“If an ordinary person were to take one, it wouldn’t cure every disease or grant immortality, but it would restore their physical condition to its peak and make them feel years younger.”
Xia Youyou took out a vial of bio-energy nutrient and shook it. “If it weren’t for the restrictions forbidding the sale of extraordinary resources to ordinary people, imagine how much you could sell this to those wealthy bosses?”
“I never said I wanted to exchange X-Crystals for money!”
“I’m just heartbroken over the wasted level-6 M-Crystal… That’s over a hundred million!”
Bai Yuxi reluctantly accepted the concept that money in the extraordinary world isn’t equivalent to that in the secular world, but he still felt a pang over the detonated M-Crystal. “One mission, one fight, and it’s gone—this is too extravagant!”
“Alright!”
“Since the previous mission went awry, LDH probably won’t assign us any tasks for a while.”
“So, for now, everyone attend classes, train, or do whatever you like!”
Luo Fei clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention. “If anything comes up, I’ll notify everyone through the team channel…”
The members of Team Seven exchanged glances.
“I’m heading to the base training camp for further study.”
Jason shrugged. “Su, remember to book me a session of intermediate Extreme Warrior training!”
“Me too!”
“Time to put in some effort, or I won’t even qualify as an XP leech.”
Drumstick glanced at Bai Yuxi, clearly spurred on by his performance. “Xiaoke, book me an intermediate course as well.”
