It was as if he had sunk into a deep, sweet, black dream, and Bai Yuxi felt so comfortable that he almost didn’t want to open his eyes. He stretched lazily, and a series of crackling noises erupted from his joints, so satisfying that he couldn’t help but let out a muffled groan.

Suddenly, Bai Yuxi sensed something was off and froze, abruptly opening his eyes only to be blinded by glaring lights. After a moment of adjusting to the brightness and lowering his hand from his face, he was startled by several large heads nearly pressed against him. He sprang back, curling into a ball, glaring warily at the crowd before him. “What are you all doing?”

Drumstick asked impassively, “What happened?”

Bai Yuxi was confused. “What do you mean, what happened?”

Drumstick seemed about to ask more, but Su Xiaoke, dressed in a white lab coat, pushed him aside. The scholarly girl, without a word, flipped Bai Yuxi’s eyelids and shone a small flashlight, then commanded coldly, “Open your mouth!”

Bai Yuxi gaped, bewildered, only for the academic goddess to shove a tongue depressor down his throat. When she pulled it out, he couldn’t help but gag and retch a couple of times.

Glancing around in confusion, Bai Yuxi realized he was in Firebird Squad’s headquarters, deep in the third basement level’s medical room, surrounded by every member of Team Seven, all wearing solemn expressions.

“Ah!” Bai Yuxi suddenly remembered and exclaimed in delight, “You’re all okay!”

“The question isn’t that we’re all okay,” Luo Fei replied, expressionless. “It’s why you are completely unscathed.”

“Exactly!” Willie, as hyper as a husky off its leash, bounded up, nearly climbing onto Bai Yuxi in excitement. “After we got out, what happened to you inside?”

Bai Yuxi shrank back desperately, his bare feet pushing against Willie’s dark, foreign face.

“Uh…” he hesitated. “After you left, the big toad and the little lizard started fighting, right? Then I had nowhere to hide, so I went all out against the big toad…”

He blinked in confusion for a while before slowly recalling, “And then… after that, I don’t remember anything.”

Maya, the foreign girl, asked in puzzlement, “What about the big toad?”

“The big toad?” Bai Yuxi scratched his head, only to feel something smooth, which startled him. He frantically felt his scalp. “Where’s my hair? Why did you shave my head?”

“That’s not important,” Xia Youyou snapped, leaping onto the bed and straddling Bai Yuxi’s stomach, shaking his hospital gown vigorously. “What matters is where the big toad went!”

“The big toad… I probably killed it, right?”

“I first chopped its eye with my axe, then hammered its plasma sac. At the end, I fought it with everything I had, my whole arm plunged in, and then I blacked out…” Bai Yuxi gripped his collar, recollecting uncertainly. “I think I finished it off?”

Everyone exchanged glances. Jason frowned. “But when we found you, you were passed out in the pit, nothing nearby.”

Bai Yuxi was utterly confused. “Did the big toad escape while I was unconscious?”

“Do you think that’s possible?” Xia Youyou hopped off the bed, arms folded and chin propped, adopting a detective’s pose. “Isn’t it likelier it ate you while it was at it?”

“I wouldn’t know.” Bai Yuxi shrugged innocently. “I was out cold.”

“Too bad your combat recorder was destroyed in the fight.”

Luo Fei shook her head regretfully. “Looks like we’ll never know what really happened. Anyway, never mind that for now—explain to us, what’s with that little thing?”

“What little thing…” Bai Yuxi followed Luo Fei’s pointing finger, and was so startled he bounced off the bed!

A vivid blue lizard lay on his pillow, hugging a red crystal the size of a chicken egg, licking it happily.

“That…” Bai Yuxi stammered, “That… that…”

Seeing his reaction, everyone sighed. Clearly, he had no idea either.

“When we carried you back, that little thing was hiding in your pocket!” Xia Youyou giggled, covering her mouth. “When it popped out, it nearly scared Willie out of his wits! Haha!”

“It was in my pocket? Why was it in my pocket?” Bai Yuxi asked, surprised by the group’s calmness. “It doesn’t bite?”

“How would we know why it was in your pocket? Anyway, when we took off your pants, it suddenly jumped out.” Xia Youyou rolled her eyes. “Luckily, it doesn’t seem aggressive. Since it came out, it’s just followed you around, pretty docile.”

“What did you say?”

Bai Yuxi suddenly widened his eyes.

Xia Youyou blinked. “I said it’s only been sticking to you, otherwise quite well-behaved.”

“Not that!” Bai Yuxi looked down at his clothes, speaking seriously. “The earlier part!”

“When we took your pants off…” Xia Youyou stopped mid-sentence, realizing, and burst into wild laughter. “Anyway, it wasn’t me!”

Bai Yuxi anxiously felt his backside. “Who did it?”

“Don’t look at me!” Drumstick shrugged, arms crossed, clearly uninvolved. “Wasn’t me!”

“Not me, either!” Jason grinned. “I wasn’t even there at the time!”

Bai Yuxi glanced at Luo Fei, Maya, Xia Youyou, and the impassive academic goddess, but quickly looked away—it couldn’t possibly have been any of the girls. When his gaze landed on the last person, he nearly despaired.

“Xiao Bai Bai!” Willie cooed, biting his finger coquettishly, his demeanor bashful. He wriggled his hips, threw Bai Yuxi a dramatic wink, pinched his lips with a flower gesture, crossed thumb and forefinger into a heart shape, and unleashed a shiver-inducing giggle. “Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho~ Saranghaeyo~!”

“Willie! I’ll kill you!” Bai Yuxi lunged in fury, swinging his fist.

But suddenly, an arc of electricity crackled up his arm and lashed the medical room’s ceiling light!

There was a burst of sparks and explosions, accompanied by the girls’ shrieks. Bai Yuxi froze, gripping Willie’s collar, fist raised.

With a deadpan look, Su Xiaoke flipped the circuit breaker. The medical room’s lighting flickered a few times, then came back on.
