Bai Yuxi’s fists swung out, and sure enough, they were much more nimble than wielding a battle blade. In an instant, he sent all the mutant toads leaping at him flying, smashing them into mid-air explosions of thick slime!

Realizing that these mutant toads posed no real threat, Bai Yuxi, who had been caught off guard, finally settled down. His fighting technique shifted, switching to the Wing Chun style he had so thoroughly practiced. This short, rapid, and direct form of combat was perfectly suited to dealing with such a massive yet low-threat horde of extraordinary creatures.

Thanks to “Cerebral Enhancement” and its superhuman memory benefits, he had been able to master these fighting techniques in such a short time. Though he couldn’t claim to have completely transcended the confines of established routines and reached total improvisational mastery, it was more than enough when facing these brainless, straightforwardly pouncing mutant toads.

Having stabilized his footing, Bai Yuxi finally had a moment to glance back at Willy. Though Willy wasn’t handling things as effortlessly as Bai Yuxi, his attack frequency was hardly lacking—a long combat dagger danced in his hands, almost as if performing a show!

At first, he was hacking the charging mutant toads into pieces, their guts and brains splattering everywhere. But once he steadied himself, he switched to a more precise method of “point, stab, flick, and slap,” and in no time, he had wounded or killed dozens of mutant toads.

“Hey, Blackie!” Bai Yuxi called as his fists and feet flew, knocking back the incoming toads. “How are you holding up?”

“I’m fine!” Willy shouted back. “These toads are pathetic! Should we fight our way out or just keep wearing them down like this? At this rate, maybe we’ll wipe them all out!”

“Hey, Whitey, take it easy!” Willy yelled. “You’re blasting them into mush—when it’s time to clean up, are we supposed to scoop them up with a spoon?”

He was, after all, an F3-level trainee ultra-limit warrior. Though his combat power was far below the ultra-evolving Bai Yuxi, handling these F0.1-level toad runts was effortless for him. He even had the leisure to complain about Bai Yuxi’s overly rough fighting style—turning all those valuable extraordinary resources into sludge.

“Wipe them all out?” Bai Yuxi’s expression turned odd. “Take a look around!”

At some point, another massive swarm of mutant toads had gathered around them, stretching as far as the eye could see—seemingly endless! Perhaps the toads realized Bai Yuxi and Willy weren’t easy prey… Of course, with their pathetic 0.1-level strength, no one would be easy prey to them anyway.

After nearly a hundred mutant toads had died, the horde suddenly changed tactics, no longer charging in to be slaughtered. Both sides were now in a tense standoff, and Bai Yuxi and Willy took the opportunity to adjust their stances.

When the mutant toads leapt at them, sending them flying with a punch was easy enough! But if the toads crouched low to the ground, neither Bai Yuxi nor Willy could bend down to attack them all—they’d die of exhaustion before killing them all!

“So what do we do now, Whitey?” Willy asked, slightly out of breath after the fierce battle. As only an F3-level, his constitution was never his strong suit. With a body 1.6 times and endurance 1.4 times that of an ordinary person, he could handle short skirmishes, but a drawn-out fight would be beyond him.

“You’re asking me?” Bai Yuxi shot back, stunned. “Blackie, you’re the ‘veteran’ here!”

“Uh…” Willy fell silent, embarrassed. He’d never been a team commander; on missions, he always followed orders from Captain Loffey. Most of the time, he was in charge of reconnaissance and support. Now, with their link to the command vehicle cut, he was genuinely at a loss.

“What are they doing? Are they planning to surround us and starve us to death here? Or maybe they want to ‘encircle and wait for reinforcements’—trap us as bait, so when the boss and the others come to rescue us, they’ll ambush them?”

Willy, changing the subject, looked around in confusion. The vast swarm of mutant toads had them surrounded but wasn’t attacking.

“I think you’re overthinking it,” Bai Yuxi couldn’t help rolling his eyes. Willy’s crazy foreigner imagination was off the charts. No matter how mutated, these were still just toads, not frog demons conjured by Zhuge Liang.

“How can there be so many toads in this cursed place?” Willy said with a shudder. “There must be tens of thousands! Where do they usually hide? And what do they eat?”

“At this density, it’s probably more than tens of thousands,” Bai Yuxi replied. “Didn’t biology class teach us that frogs and toads breed in summer? If they mutated from last year’s contamination, they’ve been lurking here for at least a year! That means they’ve reproduced for at least one or two generations. If each pair lays five thousand eggs at a time, and without natural enemies, how many mutant toads do you think there’d be?”

Willy was stunned and started counting on his fingers.

“And don’t you think something’s off?” Bai Yuxi continued. “Why is there a smell of electrolytic ozone in the air?” He sniffed at the increasingly thick ozone scent, a growing unease in his chest. “Why would a static electric field form around us after the mutant toads surrounded us?”

The befuddled foreigner was at a loss. How would he know?

Ominous premonitions have a way of coming true. No sooner had Bai Yuxi spoken than the faint crackle of electricity began to sound from all around, familiar as the snap of electrical arcs.

“Blackie!” Bai Yuxi’s face went pale. “I’ve got good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”

“What’s the good news?” Willy swallowed nervously, sensing something was wrong.

“The good news is, these mutant toads might not be poisonous, so we don’t have to worry about their glands killing us!” Bai Yuxi’s voice trembled. “The bad news is, though they might not be poisonous, they seem to have mutated like electric eels and evolved electric organs…”

He hadn’t finished when he saw the closest circle of mutant toads begin to swell. Where poison glands should have been behind their ears, tiny arcs of electricity began to dance. Then, with a series of explosive pops, the horde shot out clusters of plasma, each the size of a marble!
